The Couch introduces a new mix series, where artists, selectors, and music geeks connect sounds to a broader and recurring artistic research theme that weaves through The Couch.

First up is Het HEM's music curator Introducing a new mix series, where artists, selectors, and music geeks connect sounds to a broader and recurring artistic research theme that weaves through The Couch.

First up is Het HEM's music curator Orpheu de Jong under his DJ moniker Orpheu The Wizard::

"This mix consists of a selection of songs loosely revolving around the themes of Mystics of the Chthulucene, an artistic research project exploring the connections between magic and artificial intelligence. Some are linked only through title and sonic aesthetics, some in topics, and some purely associative. There are two songs from Music & Poetry of the Kesh, a 1985 album by Ursula K. Le Guin and Todd Barton, which documents the indigenous songs of an imaginary people from the Pacific Coast in a far distant future. Lee Gamble’s ‘XIth c. Spray’ contains haunting synthetic voices powered by machine learning. And in ‘Digital Ketjak’, Roberto Musci and Giovanni Venosta chop up recordings of Ketjak, a Balinese dance that has its roots in Samnghyang, a trance-inducing exorcism dance. Via titles like ‘Banshee Foam’ and ‘Dance of Electronic Neuron Circuits’, we end up with Miyako Koda’s ‘Butter’, in which an entity, likely a cyborg, ponders about what happens when being turned off, or as she says, dying once a day."

Here at WE FORFEIT, we are always on the hunt. Discounted bread, free wine, even the odd compliment, all are fair game and very much appreciated. When it comes to music, a certain furrowed brow of seriousness is employed. 
Through our shows, interviews and mixes, we’ve tried to present electronics with a difference, electornics that make a difference. To the snowy peaks of Canada with Solvent, to the dusty plains of Almería with Mynationshit, our objective is giving a greater audience to what is already great. This month is no exception.
Travelling even furhter, the furthest in fact, this month is dedicated to Featherstone. This Australian artist, a talent that has graced labels like Gated Recordings, Nebulae and his own Ernest’s Way. He has a full hour long mix that collects acid, braindance, electro and techno while giving you some of his own unreleased works. Fantastic stuff and thanks Ben.
Robbie is on warm-up and has some freshly baked releases alongside some golden classics.  You’ll have tracks from labels like 030303, D.Ko Records and Partout with musicians like Böhm, Reedale Rise and the incredible Ismistik featuring.

Ahead of his new Bright Bars From The Stars album, out on Meakusma at the end of May, DJ Peacock, aka Pieter Kock, presents a one-hour mix for the Meakusma Show on LYL Radio. Pieter is one of the founding and guiding souls behind the Berlin-based bar and micro club O Tannenbaum. Musically active since 1986 as a singer, guitarist, drummer, and noise musician, he has released music under his own name and a variety of different aliases and different shapes.

This one-hour mix lifts the veil a bit on the vast amount of influences Pieter has as a DJ and musician. He is a versatile chronicler of the night, with different moods and modes referencing the past and the future alike. Cosmic, sentimental, pop, avant-garde, and industrial, cocktail bars of a dystopian future, beware!
