Spiritfarer is a project that’s very close to the heart for me and the talented team at Thunder Lotus Games. It’s a positive, colourful and serene adventure about life, grief and compassion, where you guide spirit friends to the afterlife after caring for them in their last moments. It's not only about saying goodbye to characters but reflecting on what they leave after they've gone. It hopes to help us better address and openly discuss the subject of death, a common reality we’re all faced with.

The times we are living through have made the experience of writing music for this project all the more meaningful and I feel like Spiritfarer couldn’t have come at a better moment. The connections and relationships we develop with our friends and families stay with us, we have to treasure them, be more compassionate as individuals and a society, and better learn to say goodbye when the time comes.

I traveled to Bolivia and Peru a few years ago and spent several weeks immersed in some of the most remote locations on earth.

I had bought a charango and a ronroco in La Paz which allowed me to write music along the way, inspired by what I was experiencing at the time.

Being in the wild at the mercy of the elements for so long, I was constantly reminded of how small we are and that nature in all its awe-inspiring beauty allows me to find peace like nothing else does. But I know it can also turn against us if we ignore it’s signals.

In these trying and isolating times we are living through, I hope this music will allow you to escape and travel in some small way!

Collecting Sounds Around the World was written during my travels in India, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Burma, Nepal & several other countries. 

Most of the compositions have been inspired by the fascinating cultures, people & friends I've encountered during my journeys. This album would never have seen the light of day without them.

I wrote Departures after spending half a year in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Iran. This composition features several sounds I captured during my travels, including various Azans (muslim call to prayer).

Original soundtrack from the video game Jotun, a hand-drawn action-exploration game set in Norse mythology. In Jotun, you play Thora, a Norse warrior who has died an inglorious death and must prove herself to the Gods in order to enter Valhalla. 

The soundtrack highlights all the great moments of the game, from the atmospheric exploration levels to the epic boss battles. A musical journey that will take you through the five corners of Norse purgatory, leaving you with a sense of wonder, excitement, hardship and triumph.

Yeonmi Park escaped from North Korea as a child to live her life free from the oppression of the country’s regime. This beautiful and touching animated short film tells her story and illustrates what Yeonmi had to go through when her family decided to risk everything in hope for a better life. Yeonmi’s story is one of extreme hardship but also survival and hope, I'm truly honoured to have had the chance to put into music such an amazing journey.

The words that are spoken and sung throughout the album are from a nameless Hafez poem:

From this meadow the shade of that flying cypress is enough; 

May I and the company of the deceitful folk be far! 
Of all earth's treasures a cup of wine to me is enough; 

The palace of paradise for good deeds is bestowed,
