3 QUESTIONS to BIESMANS:

Q: Talking about your mix, a vinyl only selection: How did you select the tracks and what do these records still mean to you?

A: I started buying (mainly Trance) records in '97 and I decided to put a mix together that shows my evolution over a time span of roughly 10 years. You can see it as a journey from playing records at home in my basement till the point where things got more serious and I was playing a lot in (local) clubs. Musically this translates into a trip from Trance to Techno with a pinch House. This mix brought back so much good memories, goosebumps all the way!!!

Q: How did you spend your time since the first lockdown?

A: I’ve spent my time in the studio. It’s my outlet, a way to stay sane and don’t get depressed I guess. I really cannot say where I would be without my music in a time like this. I’m not the type of person that can sit back and ride this thing out from the couch. I need to put my energy into something and that something is music!
 
Q: Which projects are you currently working on and what can we expect from you the next months?

A: I’m doing several things right now. First of all I gave myself a little challenge to make (unofficial) remixes of Belgian 80’s classics. I felt it could be a way to explore different musical territories and its so much fun dive into the music I grew up with. I’m even contacting the original artists behind these songs and they all love the idea! Apart from that I’m also focussing on new originals and also a few remixes for some amazing artists! This year there will be coming new music on a monthly basis so keep your ears pealed!

2 years ago a dear friend of mine asked me to do a mix for his tribecast-series. i was in holidays and corona was actually hitting the charts for the first time. my studio turned into a homeoffice desktop desert and i lost all my inspiration to do anything related with music in this room. 

today i am still sitting in this room on a daily basis BUT: i met anja - a LOVELY woman who just had lost literally everything close to her heart. we met at mutual friends the evening before berlin pride and when we left she wasn't sure to attend the parade the next day. sadness is an asshole.

seeing anja the next morning on the streets of berlin in her colourful and wild rainbowdress waving her cute little pride-flag with a huge smile on her face and having fun with us was easily the best moment on this weekend 🥰

a truly inspirational moment. full of positive energy, pride, strength and love. it's in my head. it stays. it's good and it made me go back to the decks. 

the world has changed for a lot of people in recent times. for you, for me, for tribecast who sadly just shut down their podcasts and especially for anja. we all have to find our ways in this new world order but we can nearly do anything as long as we remember that moment when anja smiles.

born in a little town named voltersheim, max migrated to the usa in the late 70ies as a child, due to the job of his parents. the volters fastly grew a small empire of electrical goods shops and so they soon had enough money to move to sunny miami. his father wanted him to do an apprenticeship as an electrician, but max never really contracted a passion for this job. instead he was attracted to the sunny and decadent miami, which became home the the cult tv show „miami vice“ in the early 80ies. max was fascinated by the charme of this decade: the hot roller-girls & the luscious boys – beeing bi was defenetly IN, but for max it was much more than just a passing fad. and so he never made a secret of it. as a teenager he was rumored to have affaires with both the young pamela anderson and the at that time much older don johnson, who came to miami regularly for filming.

due to one oft he shops of his father he accidently got in contact with a miami clubowner who needed some turntables and diverse electric goods for his new club. his seductive charm, his purposeful taste in style and his passion for the then upcoming electronic music helped him to get a job as a discjockey in exactly this club in miami beach just a little later.

max volt fastly built up reputation with his parties called „voltilicious!“. the miami beach club scene fell in love with max, the a-listers came in flocks and champagne was everywhere among the numerous guests. topmodel cindy crawford is alleged to have said: „oh max – he’s like god! and we’re all there, in his own little, wet, hot paradise“. those were the wild times – heavy bass, unique and amazing atmosphere, hot, sex was in the air. max knew it like no other to mix things up by using the newest and upcoming music styles and the hottest tunes of then weekend by weekend. He was truly creating his very own and unique eclectic-electric style.

but having lived a life full of music, love-affaires and sex, max had to pay tribute to all that by changing his identity. this was the only way to get away from numerous affiliation cases and the nagging of some gays beeing too posessive. he got hisself a new name and left america in direction of his old home in germany. it is rumored that by now he lives in the lovely city of frankfurt, the only place in germany that reminds him of his time in miami a little. in the shelter of his new identity he’s still working as a dj and insiders are quoted that max is in preparation right now to bring his real name back to life.

now who is max volt?
we don't know, but we now for sure: don't believe the hype!

geboren in der einöde von voltersheim ging max ende der siebziger als kleinkind mit seinen eltern aus beruflichen gründen nach amerika. die volters fassten schnell fuss, bauten sich ein kleines imperium mit elektroartikel-geschäften auf und siedelten schon bald um ins sonnige miami. auf drängen seines vaters begann max eine lehre zum elektriker, er entwickelte aber nie eine leidenschaft für diesen beruf. vielmehr lockte & reizte ihn das sonnige und dekadente miami, das schon bald anfang der achziger zum dreh und angelplatz für eine der erfolgreichsten tv-sendungen – miami vice – werden sollte. max war fasziniert von dem charme der achtziger: den heissen roller-girls, den knackigen beachboys. bi war in, für max war es allerdings mehr als nur eine modeerscheinung, woraus er auch nie einen hehl machte. als teenager wurden ihm u.a. affairen mit der jungen pamela anderson und dem damals wesentlich älteren don johnson, der regelmässig zu dreharbeiten in miami war, nachgesagt.

durch eines der geschäfte seines vaters kam er in kontakt zu einem clubbetreiber, der plattenspieler und diverse elektroausstattungen für seinen neuen club benötigte. sein unauswechlicher charme, sein stilsicherer geschmack und sein faible für die damals aufkommende elektronische musik verhalfen ihm dazu, kurze zeit später in genau diesem club in miami beach als discjockey zu arbeiten. schnell machte sich max volt mit seinen ausufernden parties „voltilicious!“ einen namen. die szene von miami beach liebte max, die promis kamen in scharen und der champagner floss über die glitzer- & glamour-körper der zahlreichen gäste. topmodel cindy crawford soll ende der achziger zum besten gegeben haben: „oh max – he’s like god! and we’re all there, in his own little, wet, hot paradise“. es waren wilde bassorgien, die atmosphäre war einzigartig, heiss, sex lag in der luft. max verstand es wie kein anderer wochenende für wochenende die neuesten musikstile von morgen mit den clubhits von damals zu einem eklektisch-elektrischen stil zusammen zu mixen.

sein affairen, musik- und sexreiches leben verlangte allerdings recht schnell von ihm, seine identität zu ändern. es war die einzige möglichkeit, den zahlreichen vaterschaftsklagen, unterhaltszahlungsaufforderungen und dem gezeter besitzergreifender homosexueller zu entkommen. er legte sich einen neuen namen zu und verliess amerika wieder in richtung alter heimat. gerüchten zufolge lebt er seit geraumer zeit in frankfurt am main, der einzigen deutschen stadt, die ihn ansatzweise an seine zweite heimat miami erinnert und arbeitet weiterhin als dj, im schutz seiner neuen identität.

insidergerüchten zufolge heisst es, max sei mitten in den vorbereitungen, sein wahres ich wieder ans tageslicht zu befördern.
