As we edge closer to our 10 year Anniversary, we’re upping the ante with an absolute blinder of a two-track release from Under This.

“Battlefield” kick things off  with instant energy from a big rolling break while atmospheric synths create some tension.  A deep pulsing bassline rolls throughout while the halfway point sees the introduction of some video game-esque scorching synth lead work.  Pure dance floor heat!

“Olympus”  brings up the rear with Under This in a tech-funk mood. The kick and snare provide the pump and snap, while side-chained synths take care of the bottom end.  A massive switch in the beats alongside a lead line that could easily have been an 80s TV theme tune, keep strings interesting.  In fact you’re kept continually guessing which direction you’re being taken in throughout that track, right to the bitter end.

Under This is one of the most significant Breaks band formed back in 2003 by the guys who were keen on broken rhythms from their childhood. In the beginning of their career Under This also took active participation in promoting Breaks music in their home town - Daugavpils, which culturally is a capital of Latvian Breaks scene. Being citizens of Daugavpils, guys got under strong influence of the Nu-Skool Breaks since the mid 2000s, just after their first visits to legendary night club 'Banzai', which was famous for its big Breaks events with acts from guest DJs such as General Midi, Hyper, Elite Force and Autobots to name a few.

Grown on music of The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and other giants of electronic music scene, these guys have absorbed all the elements of banging sound to form their unique style. Blending the vibes of early 90`s Rave anthems, mid 90`s Big Beat, 70`s Disco / Funk and even 60`s Rock`n`Roll with the modern sound of Bassline and Progressive Breaks Under This are always unexpected with their musical innovations.

After their official debut release on Distinctive Records back in 2008 Under This in a wink got support from many famous DJs and producers of Breaks as well as of Trance scenes and became one of the most promising Breaks acts. Keeping their hard work and real passion to music production in the next 2 years guys signed exclusive contract with iBreaks Records. That’s became a very significant point and beginning of the fast growing career for them. After serving successful apprenticeship on iBreaks Bass since 2010, Under This have stepped up to the main iBreaks label in early 2012, already having 5 EPs reached the Top10 at Beatport in their back-catalogue. Since that moment Under This became one of the most demanded Breaks projects. With their hits such as ‘Funqualize’ (anthem of the Summer House 2012 festival), ‘Hands On You’, ‘Stay Away’, ‘What I Need’, ‘Yestreday’, ‘Dancing Right’ and the bunch of top charted remixes, Under This firmly anchored in the leading projects of Breaks scene.

These days Under This keeping their hard work in the studio on new stuff, touring around the Europe and running their own label Expand Records (Breakspoll 2013 – Best New Label Top5 nominee). Under This music is frequently played by the DJs such as Paul Oakenfold and The Crystal Method, which shows real respect and massive attention to their production, not only by Breaks lovers, but also by major dance acts.

The most prolific producer on the planet, and winner of the “Best Producer” award at Breakspoll 2015, Colombo returns to iBreaks with his brand new album “Beat Blender”.

Just as you’d expect from a Colombo album, there’s plenty of flavours throughout.  Album opener “Sodium” eases us into this new collection of work, a deep groover to set a mood and a pace for things to come, making way for “Found My Peace” (a collaboration with rapper BBK) which keeps the bass low but pushes the energy slightly.  Continuing the album’s progression is “You Panic” with it’s large throbbing bass and metallic synths.

Peak time moments come in the form of the ravey “Caliphate”, the driving beats and bass of “Catch It” and floaty uplifting vibes of “No Good”.  More steppy, heavily swung rhythms are explored on “The Scratch” and “Patterns”, both of which could easily be undiscovered classics from the early 2000s breakbeat-garage scene.

A crazy nuskool vibe is evident throughout “Red Frog”, one of the more standout tracks on the album, with it’s buzzing call and response synths.  “Vibrate” is a bonafide floor filler with a more party vibe, contrasting the darker sounds of “My Mind Strange” and “Always Keep” where the beats and bass do the heavy lifting with just the right amount of melody to keep things interesting.

Closing track “Instruments” is pure Colombo, ending on a high and rounding off this collection perfectly.  “Beat Blender” does exactly what it says on the tin - blends together sounds, textures and moods to create a truly inspiring release which will have to grooving and reaching for the lasers in equal measure.

Following on from his previous albums "Abandoned Factory" and "Station 21", Colombo returns with another long-player in the form of "Abandoned Factory 2”.

Colombo is about as prolific a producer as you can get, and it’s all put to great use on this new collection of 11 tracks that draw on a wealth of experience and influence from all corners of the breaks and electronic world.

Album opener “Enjoy This Trip” invites you to do just that, embark on a journey through beats and deep bass.  It’s a subtle, yet effective entrance into Colombo’s world, resonating with nuskool vibes, which are also present later on breakbeat-driven “Cuckoo” and “Homesick” with it’s skippier beats but just as heavy bass.  These tracks marry light and dark together is a really clever way, with some nice ear candy moments too for those listening at home.

“Hesitation” is a slightly lower tempo, deeper tune but is driven along by a throbbing bassline, and synths that sound vaguely Crystal Method-esque.  Penultimate track “303 Classic” also takes a lower BPM route, but as the name suggests explores the classic sound of the TB-303, with a distinctively chemical feel.

For the uplifting moments head straight for “Evoke” with it’s huge build towards a piano-laden drop, or orchestral masterpiece “Crystallized” - a real hybrid moment of beats, dirty bass and lush strings.  “As Usual” takes things more big-system, rave style with those proper hands in the air moments! 

Some of the darker moments on the album can be found in “Repeat” - a pulsing bass driven 3am tune, or the electro feel of “Let It Go”, whose beats can be best described as plump!

Calming things down to close the album is “Wet Dream Chill Out”, a laid back Sunday morning kind of tune - a “back to mine” tune, if you will.

“We Must Unite” is a straight up peak time party tune with a catchy Spanish guitar and horn loop providing the backbone, whilst a huge bassline dominates the frequency range. A tasteful vocal line brings some added ear candy, but it’s the beats and bass that really give this one the energy to make it truly peak time!

“Influx” delves deeper with precision perfect crisp beats, a twisted cut up vocal, and a synth line that lifts the track to a floatier, progressive place.  Ambient pads in the breakdown give it a warm feel whilst still remaining firmly in dance floor territory.  One for the 4 AM heads!
