The mix represents finding a quiet space, diving into a parallel universe within the confines of the paper, and through written word expanding your own interpretations and ideas.

For this recording I selected a handful of avant-garde/ambient records from Japan, music that floats around your ears rather than intrudes, aimed to be perfect for reading words.

Now this is something special: While our mixes normally aim at an average length of one hour, Pingipung artist (Mameen 3) and veteran leftfield selector soFa elsewhere presents almost 3,5 hours of pure joy. Here is what he says himself about this beauty:

"This collection of tracks has been inspired by a psychedelic trip near a lake in Portugal last year. It's meant to be the soundtrack of a sunny and funny afternoon of visual hallucinations and much laughing somewhere near water. Along the way it will also serve a normal day of holidays in the sun. Sip a cocktail near the beach and let yourself fade away with this magic tropical potpourri. Expect oddities from the most diverse corners in time and space."

Five years ago I started to occasionally record birthday sets for my friends - when I found the time and a suitable selection. I never did one for myself though. And this set was not even recorded to become a birthday set, especially not mine. It was recorded in a very spontaneous session in my room in Lisbon where I escaped Berlin winter this year - now, a few months later, being back in Lisbon on my way to celebrate my birthday on the Giegling floor at Waking Life with me, myself & music I listened to it again and it just felt right. It cherishes the sound that opens my heart: the deep, comforting, warm one, enriched with some playful elements and a gentle drive that never rushes. So I decided to make it my very first birthday set to myself <3 Enjoy! (Two days early as I won’t be on the phone on my birthday - what a gift)

a tale of giving

Each day and night are different, the people, the mood, the emotions... This was planed to be an emotional freedom ride but life is not always happening the way it is planed. So the result of this session is an "emotional ride". Openness is the key and accepting the situation as it is, seeing the good in it, seeing the opportunity to learn and grow... The night of 14.12.2024 was an emotional ride and so was the whole year. I am thankful for each lesson I've learned and there were many! Thankful for every night I was invited to my beloved Kasheme to express my emotions with music. Thankful for the people I've met and who understand what story I am trying to tell... And yes the cover picture is on purpose because seeing life from another perspecitve sometimes can help ;-) wishing you a happy ending of 2024 and a good start into a transformative new year! Let's do this!
