Everyone who’s been to a burn probably knows how emotional, mind-blowing, and deeply fulfilling that week can be. My Sunday sunrise set at Maxa was without a doubt one of the most special and emotional sets of my life – just like the entire week at Burning Man. What an intense and beautiful journey, culminating in that final sunrise I got to play on the deer.

Huge thanks to Maxa for having me and for creating one of the most stunning art cars out there! I loved every second of that set and felt truly honored to curate the soundtrack to that last sunrise out on the playa.

It’s moments like these that fuel my fire and remind me why I keep doing what I do. ❤️‍🔥

Fabian Krooss - Maxa - Burning Man 2024

In 2023, the rain stopped me from playing on the Maxa deer - not this year, and to make it even more special, my set was during Man burn. If you have been to the man burn, you know that this is a very special moment. Every art car gathers around the man to see it burn down. It’s an emotional time, the energy is intense, even dark. The man is the central reference of the playa, and once down, chaos surrounds the flames.

When I climbed into the deer, I saw the Maxa family emotional, hugging, celebrating the end of a long week with each other. I was excited, this was a moment I was looking forward to. Once on top of the car, surrounded by the crew, I decided to play an emotional set, more of a soundtrack to the moment than a dance party. The man burnt exactly at minute 25, I hope you like it. 🙏🏻

“To be the first artist on Monday night at Burning Man on the new Mayan Warrior Galaxyer is likely the biggest honor as DJ of 24 years. As a practicing Architect and touring DJ, the admiration I hold for the work Mayan Warrior weaves together to bring the highest level of design, sound, lighting and music, in the form of an “artcar” is endless. 
Having not seen the new design of the Mayan Warrior art car the night of my set, and being lost in the desert, trying to find it was an adventure that almost cost me missing my set. I had no idea what to look for. The only clue I could think about was lasers… but in the hectic sky of Black Rock City, the commanding, brightest vertical laser beam, connecting deep into the cosmos was my only clue. 

With less than 10 minutes until the beginning of my DJ set, and out of breath form vigorously riding my bike to arrive to the Galaxyer on time, there was no time to overthink it. I plugged into the systems, set the controls for the galaxy and let the music flow… Prepare for my cinematic & cosmic musical journey aboard the new Mayan Warrior Galaxyer; featuring tracks of mine which I wrote dreaming of playing them on this amazing creation, plus some old ones from 2001. Flying that spaceship was truly legendary.

Illich Mujica - Mayan Warrior - Burning Man 2024

¨Performing atop the new Mayan Warrior at Sunset on Friday at Burning Man this year felt like stepping into a dream. Watching the sun melt into the horizon as I played my set of originals, edits, remixes and my electric guitar, I felt deeply connected to the moment.

Each year at Burning Man is its own special thing. Sometimes magic, sometimes mud :) This was my favorite Burn since 2012 because everything felt right. Perfect weather, amazing vibe, celebrating my birthday with incredible people, and being part of co-creating moments that will stay with me forever. Combine this with playing the grand return of the Mayan Warrior before the legendary Rufus Du Sol, and this is a week I don't think I'll ever forget.

¨It's always an honor to play at the Warrior and this one was special in so many levels. A new chapter began with the Galaxyer, it´s different but felt the same. It was Saturday night after the man burned surrounded by dust storms and fire twisters. Saturdays are always like our New Year Celebration, sharing with our family and friends, everyone is still buzzing after a tough week playing in the desert. It's always challenging to play on this night as everyone is running on fumes, but it feels special to be a part of the closing ceremony. Usually Burning Man is the time of the year when I really unplug but this year I had to be close to my family, I’m thankful I was able to be back in time to say goodbye. Love You. ¨
