Light and harmony could set this purely atmospheric new work by Max Corbacho. Not the blinding light from outside but light filtered through high windows of colored glass, broken and transformed into multi-colored gems, transferring that which is material to That which is immaterial. Like a weightless dream, the main theme is exposed in Light-Matrix Portal, where a gentle swirl of chords leads us, as in a Gothic doorway, in a magnificent space. The main theme remains on all the pieces in a subtle way, spreading mystical, delicate scents through labyrinthine passages ascending and spiraling to the vaults. STYLE 
Vast beatless zones and undulating velvet expanses: Splendid Labyrinths is an album of ambient immensity and immeasurable time. Max Corbacho's latest release features heaving multi-layered drones that seem to drift in and out of focus and intensity like slow-motion sunlight filtering through gracefully moving storm clouds. These opulent sonic textures are of impressive fathomless density, they seem to stretch away into infinity and endless darkness whilst at the same time presenting more imminent audio formations that waft and furl like intangible filaments of smoke or warm currents in water. The ordering of the tracks is interesting: two long-form recordings on either side of the relatively brief Earth Womb and Wave of Reflection, this seems to reflect the cover image where a tight core is surrounded by larger structures. Much of the tonal nature of the music is uplifting, warm chords and heavenly synth voices suggestive of light and gentle ascendance holding the most proximate regions. 


ARTWORK	The front cover of Splendid Labyrinths features a vivid yellow-orange, mandala-like multi-disc bloom comprised of overlapping labyrinth discs. This is very much an image of many depths: the complexity of the layers revealing forms and patterns that arise and fall away according to one's focus. On one level, a simple flower design of twelve regular petals; on another level a three-dimensional bubble of infinite depths encircling a bewildering black hole. 

OVERALL 
Inspired by the landscape and sky of his origins in southwest of Spain, ambient master Max Corbacho composes music that references "the essence of the great and ineffable mystery of our existence." Splendid Labyrinths perhaps manages this with greater effect than ever. Released on the heels of Future Terrain, a track that "emerged in parallel ...during the long building sessions for Splendid Labyrinths", this latest album holds six recordings, four of which all hover somewhere around the fifteen-minute mark. Two shorter pieces lie in the central hub closer to six and eight minutes each Promotional material talks of "an atemporal quality" explored in recent releases following "maybe only the breathing and the pulse of the artist," very apt here. One is Future Terrain, which I imagine as a remote sci-fi futuristic landscape. This music accompanied me for several weeks as a dark background filling the space in slow motion. Arte Magnetica is a new album by Max Corbacho made of sound spaces created under the influence of the extreme atmospheric conditions of these last weeks. This set of sound waves molded in chords and soft complex textures creates a feeling of constant flow, mutating into different sound pieces. These six pieces are created to be reproduced in continuous succession in the order that the artist has created them. Max excavates in each of the six tracks a new sonic sculpture, influenced by the quiet atmosphere of the long hot summer days, where nature falls asleep to the song of the cicadas. This music reflects the power of the earth, its influence on us and the way it molds us, gently and in multiple layers of sounds and waves that project us into a new, deeper stillness. The pieces have been developed in the studio throughout the month of July and the first week of August, in an intimate experience, aligned with the telluric forces emanating from this our beloved planet Earth. The different tracks range from the extreme darkness of Monolith to the evocative, mystical force and serenity of Transcircle.

Max Corbacho has been crafting electronic soundscapes for almost two decades and has progressively refined his space ambient style since his debut, Vestiges, appeared in 1998. Experimenting and forcing the limits of looping, reverb, Fx processing, and sequencing, Corbacho strengthens the oceanic character of his albums and intensifies its time-suspending quality. Source of Present starts through the magmatic flow of "The Beginning of Remembering", the first track of this new album, created during long sessions between 2015 and 2017. Dramatically, the music moves slowly as cosmic, nebulous, expansive stratums, orbiting into the boundaries of consciousness. Focused on the more intimate and oceanic side of Corbacho, a voice with which he began a long time ago with the soft interaction between textured layers and dense mercurial harmonies, the enveloping sound of these pieces forms a fine harmonic fabric. Gradually, this music manages to install us in a mental zone only established in the present moment, like a disconnection from all the noise and mental chatter that surrounds us in daily life. It moves smoothly like long slow waves, perhaps here calmer and softer than in recent works, giving continuity to the line undertaken in the double album The Ocean Inside. 

“I have selected this group of pieces from a large number that was already created. Max says. The first piece to be composed was 'The Beginning of Remembering'. The time spent in the studio I remember as a cloud of calm, with the soft colors of the hybrid harmonic tonalities gradually changing and creating a myriad of sound waves, imperceptibly morphing and at the same time repeating itself in distant echoes.” 

Max creates a special timbric quality in his music by mixing shades and textures, that shift with each other and produce a hypnotic, decelerating, sedative effect. At the same time, the power and energy of some passages penetrate dramatically into the very mystery of life. One can choose how one wants to listen to this music, if in an attentive way, by getting involved in listening, or as a sound background filling daily activities in the day and night. In both ways, the reward is a wondrous, deep and dreamy journey.

In Nocturnes II, Max Corbacho crafts a new chapter in his series, enticing the listener to dive deeply into more than 70 minutes of atmospheric soundscaping. 

Expansive and meditative, these seven exclusive, new sound meditations burn slowly, like the light of a distant star, illuminating a breathing, ghostly landscape. The treatment that Corbacho gives his synthesizers, samplers and fx processors in this new album, profoundly organic and visceral, connects seamlessly with his creative trajectory. This 2018 release marks two decades since the publication of his first album in 1998. 

This music possesses an ambience of terrestrial connection; the sound emerges from the earth and is channeled through the electronic instruments at a subliminal level, unable to be expressed in words. The silky and intricate atmosphere of these soundscapes directs the listener to the depths of the night, coaxing one to contemplate the firmament and the shadows sketched by the faint light of the stars. Heart of the Night

As suggested by Plato, the father of philosophy, time is "a moving image of eternity." In Horizon Matrix, Max Corbacho skillfully creates a revealing and expansive atmospheric flow, in which the deep nature of temporality is the guiding thread. Such a sound landscape—slow and dreamlike—paints a graceful image where listener breathes and in a way is able to escape out of time, entering a kind of sonic wormhole. Max prints his signature stamp on all tracks, creating with his synthesizers and hardware processors expansive and luminous soundscapes, imbued with a full and warm sound, full of nuances and details. The silky chords, intertwined and fused in rich harmonies, create a space of sound in which time seems to dissolve, foreshadowing eternity. As we go deeper into the album, the multi-layered harmonic patterns push toward the climax located in the fourth track, "Into the Ocean of Time." The first track, "Quantum Cathedrals," elicits the same majesty as the 2009 album Ars Lucis. Max reflects on the connections with this album: 

"During the creation of 'Quantum Cathedrals,' I realized that I was entering the same space that I had visited years ago during the recording of Ars Lucis. It was like going back to a place far away in the time that had produced in me a special feeling. On the imminent tenth anniversary of Ars Lucis, I am pleased to open the album with this piece, born from the same filtered light." 

Passed through the electronic sieve of twenty-first-century instruments, this music possesses a deep, mythical temperament that paints a breathtaking panorama of the vastness.

More than two years ago I started this project from a Eastern concept that has always been present in my work: the analogy that exists between the mind as an ocean, with constantly changing waves at the surface, and the inner stillness and silence at the depths. It is from this seed that brings me to the concept of "Oceanic", the word from which I have been developed each of the parts that make up the album. During the creation of these pieces, I tried to go as deep as I could into this bottomless ocean depths. Max Corbacho is an independent artist born in the southwest of Spain, in the province of Badajoz. This enormous land sprinkled of oaks where he was born and he spent the first years of his life, is perhaps the deeper track than marks his music. Starred nights of summer, the caress of the nocturnal breeze, the sedative song of the crickets, immense horizons,  deeply blue skies and silence.

The extremely dense and hypnotic sonic landscapes of Max Corbacho are a constant reference to these elements, elements which condense and act as catalysts, pointing to the essence of the great and ineffable mystery of our existence. Corbacho's s musical expression has the ability to enter us in this wonderful mystery.

His musical trajectory began, after making guitar studies, in local rock bands and, after some years like a guitar player, slowly become interested in electronic music. First with legendary bands like Tangerine Dream or musicians such as Richard Burmer and Vangelis. Later, his influences include artists such as Brian Eno, Robert Rich, Steve Roach, Vidna Obmana, Alio Die, Michael Stearns.

In 1999, his first work, Vestiges was produced. Soon the prestigious online store Backroads Music chose this album as one of the best of 2000, and Vestiges became one of the more highly praised Space-ambient CDs around that time. Vestiges was considered a sincere, touching, powerful work, full of mystery.

In the year 2000 Max published his second CD, Far Beyond The Immobile Point, followed by The Resonant Memory of Earth, published by the North American label "Space For Music". Further releases include Nocturnal Emanations, Indalo and Moontribe - each one larger and more accomplished than the last.

The album The Talisman is yet another step forward. Here the artist explains "I have tried to create all the songs of this work "inside" my synthesizers exclusively, inside this deeply isolated world, an amniotic-like inner space that develops in the synth and multi-effects circuits, without insert any "external" element except for the voices in the first song. Also, I have experimented more and more with long, spacious reverbs and looping treatments ". Thus, the "oceanic" nature is strengthened, creating an atemporal quality, suspended in time and space, without rare elements disrupting the internal balance and natural flow of harmonic streams. No tempo, no synchronization, maybe only the breathing and the pulse of the artist."

Max Corbacho's last albums follow the progression into deep, silken ambiance set by The Resonant Memory of Earth and The Talisman. Albums like 2009's Ars Lucis and, over the next three years, Deep Time, Lost Links, and the double album The Ocean Inside, continued a commitment to ethereal atmospheres even less concerned with traditional forms and melody. The year 2015 brought both Future Terrain and Splendid Labyrinths. With a playing time of over 70 minutes, an expanded version of Future Terrain was released in early 2017 and followed later in the year by Nocturnes, Arte Magnetica and the last Source Of Present.
