Summer Sol VIII features artists from 20 different nationalities such as Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Israel, Turkey, Spain, Colombia, Ukraine, and Russia, to name a few.  24 of the artists are appearing on Sol Selectas for the first time, and alongside them are 10 returning Sol Selectas friends. 

The cover art by Helia Jamali portrays the moment that we catch the light, and the energetic rays of the sun activating our spirit through the divine connection.

One thing I like to do when I travel is to carry my little tape recorder and catch sounds here and there. While in Kinshasa, I recorded kids singing in a street near a church. They did not sing in French but I could almost hear as if they were chanting "Ça Va Pas La Tête?" meaning "Are You Out Of Your Mind?". I later developed the song around those samples in Guinea Conakry. The guitars and bass were recorded on a very cheap amplifier my dad once bought in a supermarket back in the 80's. Beat wise, it all started with body percussion. The main drums you hear are actually the sound of my thighs and chest. Yulia Niko returns to Crosstown Rebels this June with Fatima. This exceptional release sees the Berlin based artist draw on influences from across the globe to create two mesmerising tracks, alongside a remix from Romanian minimal hero Priku feat. Dinu.

On the introspective Fatima, Yulia displays her values, producing a track that harnesses Asian inspired strings and a beautiful vocal allowing the mind to walk through the fields of a distant land. The Priku remix of Fatima featuring Dinu sees the original reworked with dubby chords and intricate percussion, creating a hypnotic piece for the dancefloor. Then Man From Ubud sees the style switch to a fluid rhythm, a natural warm energy is produced by organic keys, lively flute and charismatic vocals.

Yulia Niko’s original minimal techno sound has gained her admiration the world over, including the attention of heavyweights such as Damian Lazarus, Jamie Jones and Dennis Ferrer. Now residing in Berlin, she can often be found wowing audiences at her residency for the famous Watergate club.
