[PREMIERE] Baron Rétif & Concepción Perez - Arbouze (Musique Large)

Acid Coco offer up a female empowering cumbia anthem
on first single from upcoming debut album.

On “Yo Bailo Sola” there is no mistaking the cumbia beat, but Acid Coco break with the dogma of tradition (a recurring theme in their work), the song’s female protagonist telling her would-be dance partner to leave her be, she wants to dance this cumbia alone.

Breaking the same traditions that also inform their work is all par for the course for Acid Coco, a Colombian duo whose debut album Mucho Gusto will be released later this year. Recorded across two charged sessions in Geneva, it’s an album that finds emotional and physical catharsis through evoking the music and memories of a Colombia where they no longer reside, but which looms large across their work.

Each song is a vignette of Colombian life: a romance set to a champeta rhythm; recollections of falling asleep to the sound of a tambor beat as family members party across the room; songs about tongue-in-cheek discoteca loves but also breakups; and reality always present, with the spectre of violence, that so many Colombians lived (and continue to live) through, never far away.

“Yo Bailo Sola” takes inspiration from cumbia from the 1950s. Music that speaks of spirituality and solemnity but that is filled with mischief. As a Gibson riff and Colombian tiple propel the song forwards we hear Andrea break the conventions of cumbia. Often a couples dance, she tells her admirer: “yo bailo sola” (“I dance alone”).

“Cumbia is something we grew up with, it has always accompanied us, it is part of who we are!” (“Este ritmo es algo con lo que crecimos, nos acompaña desde siempre, es parte de lo que somos!), say the duo, whose album also includes champeta, son montuno, reggaeton and tecnomerengue, as well as their own tropical punk hybrids.

“Yo Bailo Sola” will be released on July 17 by El Palmas Music.

After the recent release of Leipzig via Porto-based rising
talent Salomo, Burnin' Music follows up with the next
release by label boss Thomas Lesnier AKA Pegasvs.

A year since the success of 'Drinking With My Eyes', his
second outing on the label 'Closer To The Sun'; is the
talented producer showcasing a more melodic side to his
work. Warm and relaxed, the soft keys hook from the
track’s opening seconds, with the kick building an essential
groove. The buildup is subtly engaging, virtuoso keys
player Rude Jude adding jazz infused flavors that never
detract from Pegasvs’ smooth flow. Like the title suggests,
this lush production&#39;s arrival is timely, as if created to
soundtrack the recent warm weather and first days of
summer.

Taking inspiration from world travels and meditative times in
his native Marseille, ‘Closer To the Sun’ sounds like
memories brought back to his London base and translated
to relate to the city.

Fellow countryman Laroye (Tiff’s Joints, Magic Black,
Visions Inc.) is on impressive form for the remix, creating a
drums groove that sounds like a forgotten classic from the
peak of the bruk-movement. Laroye takes Lesnier’s
blueprint and opens up the track to its full potential, lending
soft background vocals to complement Abi Flynn’s lead (Tru
Thoughts Records, Incognito).

Having worked with Emanative and Atjazz among others,
Ben Hawden’s contribution cannot be underestimated, for
like Rude Jude in the original, his flute work adds an extra
ethereal dimension to the layering of harmonies.

The release is a perfect example of when the sum of
creative talents is greater than their individual contributions,
luckily for us, the result is two memorable dancefloor tracks.

[PREMIERE] Pegasvs - Closer To The Sun (Burnin' Music)

Erik Sumo – Run into The Wild (Mytron & Ofofo remix) from the forthcoming Budabeats EP BUBE-041

Erik Sumo is one of the most established Hungarian music producers of the last 20 years. His various acts gained national and international, underground and mainstream success, he scored movies - think of the now cult ‘Liza, The Fox Fairy’ soundtrack released on one of the early Budabeats 7”-s. His latest album ‘Mount Fuji’ came out in November 2019, it contains ‘Run Into The Wild’, an odd yet catchy leftfield floor filler with an unmistakable mood built of glamorous disco vibes and sinister imaginings from the woods around Fujisan and. On this EP you can hear the previously unreleased disco dub version of the song and 3 remixes bringing the original to completely different directions.

This is the first time you can listen to the rework done by Mytron & Ofofo of Multiculti fame, who chose to go the tribal way by adding some extra percussion and reconstructing the chorus, making the track even more dance floor friendly than it was originally.

Release date is the 14th of September, you can buy the EP in all big online record stores but the limited sticker sealed edition is only available at the Budabeats Bandcamp page:
