Sometimes there’s a huge talent out there and you desperately want the whole universe to discover it. That’s pretty much the story of parisian label Chuwanaga with young french artist Koji Ono, composer and producer of these four precisely crafted gems, recording everything by himself. Brilliantly mixed by Greita from Disques Flegon, his first EP Incognito is the product of a lot of influences, from Metro Area vibes to the original Britfunk sound. With an inner sense of elegance in the arrangements - something we may link to his japanese heritage ? - the whole EP brings musicality back on the dancefloor. We believe this could be the beginning of a great story for this talented musician, Koji Ono emerging from the incognito shadow to the whole light of the world. Don’t miss out !

Koji Ono - Incognito EP (CHUWANAGA002)

Romano (aka Lior Romano), the man behind the internationally acclaimed sound of Baharat, debuts his first solo record on the @batovrecords exclusive Middle Eastern Grooves 7” Series. 

Inspired by his roots and his upbringing, the record is a dialogue on a more personal level, representing a part of Lior so far unknown to the public. The music on this release is a thematic contrast to his previous Baharat releases, which are inspired by the liveliness of jamming together and creating a funky groove. Nevertheless, it delivers the same joyful intensity! The album, which was completed at the end of 2019, was created with the help of friend and producer Orel Tamuz and it’s a musical snapshot of very different aspects of Lior’s life and showcases his multicultural upbringing. 

Born to half-Turkish, half-Egyptian parents, and growing up in a Jewish household, Lior’s sound embraces his parents’ cultural heritage and his own musical background, mixing Turkish, Egyptian, and Greek folk music, surf and Mediterranean rock in a kaleidoscope of upbeat psychedelic groovy goodness. The influence of Omar Souleyman and Aris San’s work is very present in Lior’s work and can be made out from the ululating keyboards and high-pitched melodies in staccato form respectively. Featuring a blend of Arabic and Western structures, very funky basslines and catchy melodies, this instrumental record is the embodiment of fun and carefree celebration of the joy of making music.

Acid Coco offer up a female empowering cumbia anthem
on first single from upcoming debut album.

On “Yo Bailo Sola” there is no mistaking the cumbia beat, but Acid Coco break with the dogma of tradition (a recurring theme in their work), the song’s female protagonist telling her would-be dance partner to leave her be, she wants to dance this cumbia alone.

Breaking the same traditions that also inform their work is all par for the course for Acid Coco, a Colombian duo whose debut album Mucho Gusto will be released later this year. Recorded across two charged sessions in Geneva, it’s an album that finds emotional and physical catharsis through evoking the music and memories of a Colombia where they no longer reside, but which looms large across their work.

Each song is a vignette of Colombian life: a romance set to a champeta rhythm; recollections of falling asleep to the sound of a tambor beat as family members party across the room; songs about tongue-in-cheek discoteca loves but also breakups; and reality always present, with the spectre of violence, that so many Colombians lived (and continue to live) through, never far away.

“Yo Bailo Sola” takes inspiration from cumbia from the 1950s. Music that speaks of spirituality and solemnity but that is filled with mischief. As a Gibson riff and Colombian tiple propel the song forwards we hear Andrea break the conventions of cumbia. Often a couples dance, she tells her admirer: “yo bailo sola” (“I dance alone”).

“Cumbia is something we grew up with, it has always accompanied us, it is part of who we are!” (“Este ritmo es algo con lo que crecimos, nos acompaña desde siempre, es parte de lo que somos!), say the duo, whose album also includes champeta, son montuno, reggaeton and tecnomerengue, as well as their own tropical punk hybrids.

“Yo Bailo Sola” will be released on July 17 by El Palmas Music.

We don’t really know Bruno “Patchworks” Hovart’s secret but we’re always thrilled to get a taste of his proven production skills. After two acclaimed LP’s as Mr President released over the last decade, the Disco ruler is back with some groovy ideas to put the country into clubs again. One Night is indeed a shiny celebration of the genuine spirit of Soul and Disco, always coming with Bruno’s modern touch, fitting all the criteria to become an instant club classic.


From start to end, Mr President’s blend of grooves and subtle jazz harmonies brings a definitive Roy Ayers’ feeling to the compositions. Developing his vision along six titles, Mr President certainly knows how to produce hits for modern dancefloors. Just like on his previous albums, Bruno plays most instruments, when not even singing catchy vocals. One more time, he also brought incredible lead singers in the studio, some you may know from different projects already released on Favorite Recordings, like Jennifer Zonou (Hawa), Cindy Pooch & Celia Kameni (Saving Coco) and Sabba MG (Mr President’s previous releases). Thanks to exciting arrangements, they carry the songs to a certain climax which reminds the great US era of disco and house divas. Along the original compositions, Mr President also tackles the challenge of covering Roy Davis Jr. & Peven Everett’s house anthem “Gabriel”, bringing the track into even deeper jazz territories.

Of course you may know Mr President from his previous LPs, Number One (2011) and Hips Shaking (2014), however you might also know him under many of his other projects, such as Voilaaa, The Dynamics, Uptown Funk Empire, Metropolitan Jazz Affair or Taggy Matcher to name just a few. Patchworks has been a ubiquitous artist since more than 25 years now, from the House years in the nineties to his recent involvement on different Favorite’s releases like Joao Selva, Pat Kalla, or the last EP of Leroy Burgess & Saving Coco. More globally, through all these years and various projects, Bruno “Patchworks” Hovart’s established himself as an unequalled producer, both in term of quantity and quality.

Erik Sumo is one of the most established Hungarian music producers of the last 20 years. His various acts gained national and international, underground and mainstream success, he scored movies - think of the now cult ‘Liza, The Fox Fairy’ soundtrack released on one of the early Budabeats 7”-s. His latest album ‘Mount Fuji’ came out in November 2019, it contains ‘Run Into The Wild’, an odd yet catchy leftfield floor filler with an unmistakable mood built of glamorous disco vibes and sinister imaginings from the woods around Fujisan and. On this EP you can hear the previously unreleased disco dub version of the song and 3 remixes bringing the original to completely different directions.

This is the first time you can listen to the rework done by Mytron & Ofofo of Multiculti fame, who chose to go the tribal way by adding some extra percussion and reconstructing the chorus, making the track even more dance floor friendly than it was originally.

Release date is the 14th of September, you can buy the EP in all big online record stores but the limited sticker sealed edition is only available at the Budabeats Bandcamp page:
