Pulse is the possible metaphorical entrance into the existence and filling the space with self. The heartbeat, day and night and the trajectories of planets are the different forms of emptiness. The emptiness slowly fills in the space and transforms into the familiar shapes of color, desire, fading glance. Thus we recognize ourselves in the emptiness and achieve our nothingness.
Re-surrection, re-building, re-order, re-flection, re-jection.
Reflection of time slowly disappears in the pulsatory emptiness

Max Kolomiiets Re-Pulse for Oboe and Bayan

Composer tried to give the musical equivalent to the images, mentioned in the title of the piece that first of all reflected in the construction of the form. The piece consists of three fragments (apart from coda), the first and the third are an inexact reflection (as if in a distorting mirror) of each other: timbres, time signature, registers and texture changes follow the contours of the opposite section. The second section, from the middle of which repeat starts (or, in other words, an echo, a reflection), consists of two episodes, one of which is written in combination with a repeat, the other is written throughout.

Maxim Kolomiiets: Interludio

The work on antiphons, which took over half a year, became an important and exciting experience for me. I set myself a goal of trying to feel what a woman, whose son had become the founder of the new religion, could experience, while she herself happened to get place in the pantheon. Was it anger, despair, or perhaps exultation? Did she feel the significance and greatness of what was happening? Did she think that she would be praised for the ages? What feelings should the faithful experience when singing the hymns to the Virgin Mary? Moreover, how can I express feelings of excitement and despair in music based on the canonical texts, where not a single letter can be changed?
For me, the image of the Virgin Mary offered by the canonical texts is a hymn to unbroken human greatness and nobility, being, at the same time, a song of loneliness, personal drama and inconsolable grief caused by losing a loved one. It is a continuing search for a solid footing and failure to find one, inevitability of the tragedy and greatness of the person who has overcome it. It is an eternal womanhood and self-sacrificingness.

wild parade of buffoons, who goes into the distance through the soft glass of a broken bottle on the bottom of the city sewer.
The work is based on the music of the Dance of the buffoons from the Snow Maiden op.12 Peter Tchaikovsky. In this piece, I tried to separate different components of the musical structure: harmony, rhythm, tempo, etc. Thus, all these parameters start to exist separately. Familiar harmonies and melodies, distorted and permutated, transform the everyday story into a surrealistic action. The shadows of buffoons are reflected in a dirty glass shard. They whirl in a crazy dance that constantly changes the tempo. The shadows become gigantic, then disappear.

Maxim Kolomiiets
Composer, oboist, music curator.
Maxim was born in 1981 in Kyiv.
He graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine as an oboist (2005) and as a composer (2009) and from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln as a composer (class of Johannes Schöllhorn, 2016). He took part in International Young Composers Academy in Tchaikovsky city (2013), and reading sessions by Ensemble MusikFabrik.
He is the winner of the national competitions Gradus ad Parnassum (Kyiv, 2000), Step to the Left (Saint Petersburg, 2012) and III Prize on Vareler Komponistenpreis (Oldenburg, 2015).
He took part as the performer in many Ukrainian and foreign festivals and master courses: historically informed performance with Freiburg Baroque Orchestra (2007) and contemporary music with Ensemble Recherché (2007, 2008), Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt (2010), impuls academy (Graz, 2011), Per suonare l'oboe (Freiburg, 2011).
As a solo-oboist played with orchestras Kyiv soloists, Musica Camerata, Russische Kammerphilharmonie St. Petersburg. Together with the Ukho Ensemble he realized the Ukrainian premiere of the concert for oboe No.2 by Luca Francesconi, as also ensemble pieces by P.Boulez, S.Gervasoni, B.Ferneyhough, L.Berio, G. Kurtag and many others.
Maxim took part in master classes in Montepulciano (Italy, 2015) under direction of Johannes Schöllhorn, Florence Millet and Werner Dickel as an oboist, a composer and a conductor.
He was a participant of the Kyiv conductor master classes under the guidance of Luigi Gaggiero (2016).
His music has been performed at the international festivals : MATA-Festival (New York), Summer New Music Courses in Darmstadt (Darmstadt), New Talents (Cologne),  Donaueschinger Musiktage, Warsaw Autumn (Warsaw), World Music Days  (Leuven), Other space (Moscow), Gogolfest (Kyiv), Contrasts (Lviv), Randfestspiele (Zepernick) etc.
Among the performers of his music are Ensemble MusikFabrik (Cologne), Ascolta (Stuttgart), Lions Gate Trio (U.S. und Europe), Neo Quartet (Gdansk), Ukho Ensemble (Kyiv) , the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (Kyiv), Kyiv Chamber Orchestra (Kyiv), Syrinx Flute Quartet (Moscow), Ensemble Nostri Temporis (Kyiv), GAM-Ensemble (Moscow), Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (Moscow), Vladislav Pesin (Moscow), Ian Pace (London), Helen Beldsoe (Cologne), Hayk Melikyan (Yerevan).
Since 2015 he is the solo-oboist of the Ukho Ensemble for contemporary music (Kyiv).
Co-founder of Ensemble Nostri Temporis and founder of the ensemble of ancient music Luna Ensemble. Gogolfest music curator (since 2017).
