Progressive deep breaks

After contributing a remix of Analog Context's 'Amygdala' and a track on the Artmosphere Volume 3 compilation, the Qilla Records A&R Vishal Unni is back with a six-track EP 'Rarefact' that also features remixes from ZRK and Martyn Päsch. 

Vishal is a Bangalore-based producer & DJ with a sound that can be described as a symbiosis of the deeper realms of techno, laced with futuristic soundscapes and psychedelic characteristics.

Our premiere for today, 'Asthayi,' is a dark, hypnotic broken-beat escapade infused with classic 303 acid synths. 

'Rarefact' releases on December 5th, with pre-orders on November 21st.

Faery's (@freyacaldwell) psychedelic selections are eye-closing and mind-opening in equal measure

This mix is loosely based on two of my favourite sets I played last year - one was the set I played at Above Below Festival where I had the best time closing the festival in full vortex mode, going from driving deep techno into dark, spiralling DnB; the second was a set I played at Fata Morgana Festival in Normandy - that was a really special set for me, it was one of those ones where everything felt flowy and even though it was 2 hours it felt as though just 20 minutes had passed.

I love building things up quite slowly, what I tried to do in this mix is start off with sparser, ricocheting, percussive tracks and from that lighter stuff I like to gradually get into what I like to call “thick techno” – chunky deep stuff, and then I always like to bring it back down again so I have tracks that are ambient, but they are really intense so they are kind of like peak time ambient. I think it’s nice when things are getting intense to strip everything back and then you can go back to that process of building things back up again. I also find these to be an amazing tool for shifting tempos and for entering new territories – for this mix I decided on fast, skittering psy-influenced techno, but I also love going into dnb at this point too. I think the thing I love most about this new, psy-esque fast techno is the way its intensity comes from its speed rather than a huge amount of weight to the tracks.

Fortunea Records is thrilled to present 2 great Italian producers for its 33rd record. DJ Rocca & Mike Riviera will release their 4 tracks packed Night Jamz EP this spring on the Austrian label to shake up the dancefloors with their combined power of raw and snappy warehouse grooves.

The former is a living legend! He began his career in the late 1990s with drum’n’bass-, breakbeat- and future jazz productions under the brand Maffia Soundsystem, which was also a club in Italy where he was the main resident dj. What followed was an impressive work history in the house and disco scene with many memorable tracks and collaborations with artists such as Dimitri From Paris as Erodiscotique or Marcello Giordani under the moniker Supersonic Lovers.

Michele Tessadri aka Mike Riviera resides in Berlin and is mostly known for his italo disco inspired productions with Luc Sauvage. But he released also solo under pseudonyms such as Fratelli Riviera on the labels Slow Motion and Bear Funk and occasionally works on impressive edits of disco- and funk records.

The Night Jamz EP will come out on all the digital stores and streaming services on may 24, 2024 and will be available on limited vinyl shortly after.
