Symphonie de l'Espace, Op.20 (2004-2009)

Maxine (Maxime) Aulio was born in Chartres, France, in 1980. She began her studies of organ at a young age but soon took interest in percussion, harpsichord, then horn, instrument she studied at the Conservatoire National de Région of Toulouse, France. Then, she studied at the Lemmens Conservatory in Leuven, Belgium, where he graduated in 2006 with a Master in Music, in composition, with conducting option. During the summer of 1999, she composed her first work for concert band, Prophéties, premiered by the band of the Conservatoire National de Région of Toulouse. One year later, she wrote Les Voyages de Gulliver, a suite in four movements for concert band (De Haske Publications).

Maxine Aulio is a self-taught and versatile composer. Her list of works includes items for soloist(s) and wind orchestra, as well as compositions for chamber ensembles, for voice(s), for symphonic orchestra, or film music.

Her works have been premiered and played by notorious musicians and ensembles, such as: Thorwald Jørgensen, Michel Becquet, Laurent Lefèvre, Fabrice Millischer, Philippe Hanon, Miraphone Tuba Quartett, Anthony Caillet, Robert Benton (USA), Hélène Escriva, Eric Villevière, Philippe Ferro, Félix Hauswirth, Jacques Deleplancque, Amsterdamse TramHarmonie (Netherlands), Toulouse Wind Orchestra, Banda Municipal de Barcelona, Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, Ensemble Instrumental de l’Ariège, Orchestre d’Harmonie de la Région Centre, Orchestre à Vents Non Identifié (Quebec), all french military/firemen/police bands, Contra Costa Wind Symphony (USA), Banda Sinfónica da PSP (PT), Nagoya University of Arts Wind Orchestra (Japan), American Wind Symphony Orchestra (USA), Massachusetts Institute of Technology Wind Ensemble (USA),... She has also studied orchestra conducting with the illustrious Conservatory of Paris’s professor Jean-Sébastien Béreau. Sharing ideas with one of his mentors, Eric Villevière, who premiered most of her master works, she doesn’t omit to receive his advices.

Interested by wind orchestra history in France - driving her consequently through its military past -, and advocating militant action around it, she succeeded in 2008 a contest to be Military Conductor in French army, with a position at the Principal Wind Band of French Army, until 2013.

Selected in 2015 for a DMA (Doctorate in Musical Arts) in Wind Conducting at the University of North Texas (USA), with the maestro Eugene Migliaro Corporon, she unfortunately had to cancel this project. In 2016-2017, she has the position of conductor (orchestras, chamber music,
conducting class) at the Conservatory of Tours (France). In addition, she is composer-in-residence. From 2018, participating to numerous training programs and boards of examiners, composing some new works, she also
gives time to developing the French Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (AFEEV) with her colleagues and friends from the wind orchestras milieu in France.
Since 2021, she is professor of Wind Conducting, conductor of Wind Orchestras at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (PORTUGAL).
