The Maghreban has been making some well earned noise since his inaugural BR show alongside Matthew Herbert. Rather than continuing along the disco-ish path of his latest release on Versatile, he has changed tack as he returns to Zoot Records with three tunes influenced by (but not identical to) different times from his teens.

"Now Easy" is informed by those c. 1993 dark jungle 12s he knew and loved: The Dark Stranger, Don Bad Man, Presha III, The Capsule EP. The video is a tribute to those and other records.

The album is released digitally on 19th October.

Released in partnership with our friends at Berlin-based-Italian-at-heart label @hell-yeah, the final transmission from Cascine in 2015 comes from Italian producers Tempelhof and celebrated composer & director, Gigi Masin. The newest piece of work from the trio's ongoing collaborative sessions also serves as the first glimpse into an album scheduled for Spring. 

Tempelhof (Luciano Ermondi and Paolo Mazzacani) are known for their spacious downtempo musings, songs that are rich and musical, yet economical in emotion. Having previously released one solo album (Frozen Dancers), a handful of 12” singles and another collaborative LP with Masin (Hoshi) in 2014, Tempelhof are deeply respected at home in Mantua and throughout niche producer circles across Europe, North America and Asia. 
 
On "Tuvalu," the pair once again team up with Venetian composer Gigi Masin, a man who’s played an important role in Italy’s music community since the ‘70s – on radio, on television and in theatre via his directorial work. An ongoing source of inspiration to others, artists including Bjork and To Rococo Rot have sampled his music. More recently, Masin's full-length Talk To The Sea is regarded as a benchmark ambient LP, while album Lifted 1, released April of this year, created with Maxmillion Dunbar and Co La under the name Lifted, is still garnering praise. Together, Masin's and Tempelhof’s chemistry is organic, elegant and undeniable.

Babe Roots are a relatively young duo from Turin, Italy, making a unique brand of atmospheric, techno-infused dubwise.  On our radar since their splendid debut 7” on Rohs! Records in early 2016, we are very pleased to invite them into the ZamZam fold with two mesmerizing and contrasting tunes.  

“Be Still” is a deeply meditative yet driving dub techno trek in classic fashion, featuring rastaman Kojo Neatness intoning on righteous living, working the land, guarding the tongue, and avoiding Babylonian schemes and traps laid by the wicked.  Maternal bass and shimmering reverbs envelop a heartbeat rhythm of kick, shaker and distant snares for a timeless vibe that shows mastery of the idiom while updating it for contemporary sound systems.  

“Rawness” is an extraordinarily deep 140 journey that opens with rich pads and swirling atmospherics, creating a psychoactive ambience that builds into a steady kick.  The full riddim hits and plunges us even deeper with restrained, syncopated drums and percussion.  Churning bass powers us through the dense, hallucinatory fog as tendrils of electricity probe and zap, and serrated snares cut through the tape haze and studio clouds in the last third.  Carving out a gorgeous edge between deep dubstep and dub techno, “Rawness” hits all the marks and will find a home in a huge range of sets.
