In celebration of a dear friend's wedding.

I was struggling to find my groove at the beginning of this night. I was finding it difficult to let go of family and work related concerns and that impacted my musical expression. Perhaps the primal screaming in the first track encapsulates the pandemic years for many of us. I knew I had to redeem myself and play a decent set for my dear friend. I think I was able to bring things together during my final session on that island, and this recording is a memory of that.

I hope this small gift brings you peace and joy.

Welcome to the WE ARE ONE Podcast Episode 149 with Sai from Berlin,Germany!

Mixing Dub, Dubtechno, Heavywheight, electronic bassmusic in a certain kind of emotional expressing way...I have experienced a lot of different electronic types and styles during my musical biography witch began in the 8oies as a teen with Postpunk and dark wave and develloped further with Ska, Reggae, Jungle, Drum 'n Bass and Techno. Reggae and the Jamaician Soundsystem Culture had also a big influence to me, especially the ruff and heavy basslines of dub and raggamuffin....
In the last two years Dubtechno became a very special role to me cause of it's introvert meditative attitude which fits very good to me now in the present time.

So music is much more than entertainment to me and shaped my personality by getting much energy from it.
And this is something, what I want to bring over in my diverse and gengre overarching mixes.
After many years, I started mixing music again during the covid pandemic time...

▌I How did you prepare this mix and what was your main inspiration?
First, I listened to a few previous mixes on the United We Stream Soundcloud page. I wanted to create something unique to my style but also within the realm and style of the previous DJ's. Next, I went through my catalogue of music and put songs into sub-folders and of course added new releases as the time neared for my set to be due. My main inspiration was my love for music and the various styles of Techno I enjoy mixing. I stuck in some tracks that are very Afro influenced with the drum beats but for the most part stayed true to a mixture of melodic and industrial Techno. Unlike most of my sets this one does not feature a vocal mash-ups but there are some vocals that I enjoyed looping.


▌II How do you make use of technology?
All of my sets for this platform and others are all done live. Once I press play, what happens is pure instincts and my knowledge of the tracks. So I would say my use of technology when it comes to creating mixes is very simple. Monitors, decks, headphones, and of course my USB with the tracks. I don't use any effects machines or production equipment, so I try to layer and do mash-ups to create build ups and give the mixes textures. 


▌III What’s your favorite club and what’s your favorite festival - explain why!
My favourite club is Ushuaia...the open air vibe, the flyovers, it's a magical venue in a magical place.
My favourite festival is Movement Festival. That really doesn't need an explanation but the organic nature of the festival and pure love for Techno music of the attendees makes it just enjoyable. It's about nothing but the music!

How and where did you find out you want to start DJing?

Clubbing has always been one of my favourite things. Some good friends of mine have been djs for so long and as I saw them playing I realized very fast how much fun it must be to add a little spark of yourself to the music you love. Therefore I would say, the first time I thought about it was on the dancefloor.
