Arkan (Ukrainian: Aркан, Aрґан ) is a popular dance of the Ukrainian Hutsul people (from Hutsulshchyna, southwestern Ukraine). The Arkan is traditionally performed around a burning bonfire by the men. The word Arkan also refers to the step that the men perform while dancing around the fire. The step begins with the right foot stepping to the side (or double stamping as the dance builds momentum), the left foot crosses behind, the right foot steps to the side again, and the left foot is hopped in front of the dancer with a bent knee. The dance is performed with the men's arms upon one another's shoulders. In professional Ukrainian dances, however, many variations may accompany this root step.

suggests. It smashes through the boundaries between styles to deliver 
a fusion of tech and liquid, hard and melodic, which perfectly 
reflects the anything-goes-if-it-makes-you-dance philosophy of the 
early rave era.

Next up we have “Selecta” which anyone who knows their late-nineties 
D&B will fall in love with instantly. To many people, this era of dark 
pads, sweeping basslines and heavy beats was when dancefloor drum and 
bass was at its apex. 2DB have taken those elements and worked their 
alchemy to bring them right up to date.

“Surrender” takes things down a notch with a half-speed intro which 
showcases a soaring vocal riff. Then, to keep the energy of this 
hands-in-the-air euphoric sound going, 2DB build things up, weaving, 
in some soulful house vibes before dropping into brock out mode.

Finally, “Love the Music” ties the EP together with an uplifting, 
soft-focus, strings and piano melody to makes the listener float away 
on a cloud of sound. This tune encapsulates the escapism of rave 
culture, and is guaranteed to hit straight to the heart of any true 
junglist.

So, 2DB are carrying on their education of the masses into the roots 
of drum and bass. This EP, both in the rave and on the radio, is

PROMETHEUS EP -- MAXNRG

RELEASE DATE: 15th JULY 2012

The word "unique" gets bandied about a lot when new artists are being 
promoted. MaxNRG, Technique's latest signing, however, deserves that 
moniker. Representing Ukraine, he's been a pioneer of the drum and 
bass scene in his homeland since the late nineties, and now label 
bosses Drumsound and Bassline Smith have lit the fuse that's going to 
blow up his reputation worldwide.

From the opening bars of the title track of this EP, "Prometheus", 
you can tell there's something different about this producer. Sure, 
it's got the dance-demolishing bass and beats that you would expect 
from a Technique Recordings release, but it's MaxNRG's melodic sense 
that really sets him apart. Twisting Eastern European musicality 
around the drum and bass paradigm creates a style that you've really 
never heard before.

Then, "Arkan" takes it up another notch, explicitly laying out the 
blueprint to MaxNRG's approach. This is unmistakably the sound of 
Ukrainian D&B. Traditional folk sounds organically blend into 
razor-edge synth-work in a way you wouldn't have thought possible. The 
combination of styles melds into a high-energy workout guaranteed to 
become a rave anthem.

Next, just to show he's got more than one trick up his sleeve, Max 
throws down "Metro 2033 VIP". This is a slice of technoid darkness 
designed to show that he can do atmosphere and tension as well as 
upbeat melody. Layers of floating pads and percussive sounds dissolve 
into a skank-out drop to prove this producer has got all bases covered.

And while he's covering bases, the final track "Sunset of Empire" 
covers two in one. He delivers a beautiful film-score panorama of an 
intro, and then brutally switches and glitches things up with a 
serrated bass-drop.

The "Prometheus EP" is just the beginning of MaxNRG's assault on the 
world of D&B as part of the Technique Recordings crew. Any discerning 
DJ who hears these tunes will want to be part of that assault too. 
Ukranian D&B has planted its flag, and now it's here to stay.

Hailing from Stourbridge, near Birmingham, Tim Smith and Ashley Lamb are starting to have quite an impact in the world of drum and bass. Relatively unknown to many so far, Raw Theory will undoubtably become a name recognised by Drum and Bass followers in the very near future.

Sharing a close taste in music the duo have been inspired and influenced by the likes of drum and bass artists such as Sub Focus, Camo & Krooked, Original Sin, Matrix & Futurebound, Tantrum Desire and DJ Fresh, just to name a few. While also pulling in many influences from outside the walls of DnB from Oasis, The Prodigy, Wu- Tang, Dr. Dre, The Verve, and the Blood Brothers.

MaxNRG is a drum’n’bass music producer from Lviv, Ukraine, from where he has been instrumental in pushing the D&B and underground dance music movement across Eastern Europe. He began his journey in late 90’s, experimenting with various genres until he fell in love with drum and bass. Since then, he's steadily established his position as the top boy in the scene in his home country.

He released his homeland's first D&B album "Dead Voice" in 2002, as well as becoming the remixer of choice for many top Ukrainian artists. His crew Funk Masters, which includes his collaborators Derrick & Tonika, have since gone on to promote huge events across the region and to form their own label DNBSession Music. 
Among Ukranian junglists, his crew will be forever legendary for the anthem "Ruhaymo Jungle Massive", featuring MC N.E.D., and for their 2008 debut album "Drum and Bass Nation".

Having proven his credentials in Eastern Europe, Max began his campaign on the rest of the world with a well-received remix of Pendulum's "The Island", which came third out of more than eight-hundred entries in their remix competition in 2010. 
In 2012 MaxNRG's global reputation was secured with his signing to Technique Recordings.

From grimy trap to main-stage D&B, from delicate melodies to wicked big basslines, from Ukraine to the UK, MaxNRG's got it covered. Since signing to Technique he's demonstrated a level of versatility that's meant each new release comes with the promise of some new twist in the bass-music tale. Listen to the dancefloor smashers ‘Kill The Snake’, 'Now Hear This' and ’50 000’, horror-movie darkness of '“Danger Zone'”, vocal dnb 'Hide Away My Heart', the electro-acid road joint 'Dis Way We Gotta Do It', uplifting 'Far Frontiers from Space' and the proudly Ukrainian “'Arkan' and you wouldn't even know it was the same mind at work.
