This is an atmosphere of ants on a contact microphone, eating sugar. You can hear their tiny footsteps while they run on top of and underneath the microphone - the crunching sound when they take a bite of the sugar and drag the tiny sugar cubes across the mic surface in an attempt to bring it back to their anthill.
