DJ Harvey is one of the most enigmatic people you could ever hope to meet. His "anything goes" approach to DJing, music and life has created some of the most out-of-sync, synergistic audio excursions and parties of the past 25 years. He has always stayed one step ahead by doing exactly what he wants, regardless of opinion, as an army of one, a cult leader for a last generation of pirates. 

Harvey's critically acclaimed 'Locussolus' project is finally receiving its long-awaited reissue for the digital generation, in its expanded entirety, as the debut release on Harvey’s new imprint HGS. The self-titled album saw Harvey's imagination run wild — from the big room stormer named after the club 'Berghain', the twisted psychedelic minimalism of 'Gunship' and 'Little Boots', to the "Fleetwood Mac on Quaaludes" trip of 'Tan Sedan', the Electro-Funk of 'I Want It' and 'Next To You' which features guest vocals by Heidi Lawden. On its initial limited release, Locussolus saw support from disparate sources such as Andrew Weatherall, Carl Cox, James Holden, Lovefingers, Francois K, Tim Sweeney, Trevor Jackson, Rob Da Bank and Ivan Smaggahe. David Mancuso even proclaimed 'Next to You' a “Loft classic” and it was included on many of that year’s DJ and Record Store "best of" lists.

Included alongside the album’s original full track listing are the complete remixes, dubs and instrumental versions, many available for the first time. To coincide with the reissue, Beatport is also hosting a remix competition from which the winner’s track will be included on a forthcoming remix package alongside new remixes from London’s Kiwi and LA’s Lovefingers, Bears In Space and Warehouse Preservations Society.

Rooted in nature’s frequencies, she improvises in what she humbly describes as Earth Language. A mystical way of channeling nature’s vibrations into sound.

Six months after their last installment, Shir Khan and Exploited drop another hot to trot collection of disco edits. As usual, there's much to excite, beginning with the familiar guitar solos, Rhodes keys and dub disco pulse of Antilope's "Singing Ghost" rework. Death On The Balcony keep up the reverb and delay-laden dub disco theme on "Addict For Your Love", whose rubbery groove, twinkling pianos and heady vocals have been expertly rearranged to fit house dancefloors. Finally, Matpat go loop crazy on the thumping disco house cut "Only You" which sits somewhere between Rahaan and Soundstream. Excellent stuff all round.

Malcolm Mitchell’s Global Warming Records is a self-proclaimed outlet for “discoholics” and multi-cultural geeks. The three projects they’ve released are a collection of songs emanating a cosmic, often tribal, synth heavy analog disco sound. The latest release from Marseille based producer Fred Berthet (aka. DJ STEEF), an old time friend of the label and major artist of the downtempo scene in the South of France, fits a similar mold. The EP, similar to its artwork, is filled with a slow, sexual tension heightened by slow, driving rhythms and hypnotic acid bass lines.

Included in the EP is a remix from Italian balearic duo, Mushrooms Project (Giorgio Giri and Marco Lentano), who have crafted a superbly organic and deeply drugged out mid tempo burner that seems to call on numerous Ibiza sunrises for inspiration. Freaky, mesmerizing synth work take the listener on a trip to acid islands where steady bass permeates through thick fog over glistening percussive sequences. Its driving rhythms make the track feel faster than it is. This is a much appreciated form of trickery in down-tempo productions. Slow burners that make you dance hard are not easy to make.

The EP, and 100 limited edition copies of the naughty cover art illustrated by Ben Hubbard and printed on 420 x 594 mm poster, 250g heavy matte paper is available to purchase via GWR’s Bandcamp page. The beach was busy with human life upon the first date in July. It was as if half of the country had flocked from far and wide to touch down upon the shore and watch the waves slowly roll in against the golden sand. The heat poured down upon the crowds from the radiant sun which shone brightly up high above. The sky was a crystal clear blue and the sound of sweet music travelled softly upon the warm summer breeze. In cafes some watched others swim whilst afraid to dunk their own feet, they drank from straws a golden liquid made for a day beneath the light. 

We love a good edit here at Ransom Note, it can be a fine art, a thing of delicate beauty. The Rollover DJ's have reworked "Che Cavolo Di Vita Fai" in a showcase of balearic beauty.
