This piece was composed for the Maxwell Quartet in 2013 by Anna Meredith. It was first performed September 26th, 2013 at Inverness Town House by the Maxwell Quartet, and was commissioned by Enterprise Music Scotland. This recording is from a performance at Glasgow University, 11th November 2013. Anna says, "A Short Tribute to Teenage Fanclub was written as a 4min partner piece to Songs for the M8 and when I was thinking about writing it I found myself looking back to the same (grungey teenagery 1990s) time as I did for the other quartet. 

A lot of those M8 journeys were to see Teenage Fanclub who I was a big fan of.  I’ve found myself getting a bit nostalgic and listening once again to their heavy power pop and then wondering what it would sound like with no density or sustain and just the click and attack onto the guitar string.  I didn’t want to take any material directly from the band but have worked with layering scaley step lines and rotating chords and keeping the texture pizzicato throughout."
