An excerpt out of my 25-minutes long 16-channel latest composition. Theogyny debuted at Newcastle University in December 2013 as part of my Music PhD. A magnus opus that unites mysticism, eroticism and psychoanalisis, Theogyny involves 16 different vocal channels performing different vocal melodies in a crescendo of intensity and coming together in a coda of pure sound.

Synopsis

Repetitive actions and the textures of ink, bleach and other cleaning products are used to re-animate the labour of domestic work performed by many generations of women, yet invisible and forgotten.

Biog

Birgitta Hosea is a media artist, who works in expanded animation and experimental drawing. Her work, which is included in the Tate Britain archive, explores presence, time and the invisibility of labour and takes many forms from video installation and animated performance art through to drawing on paper. Although once a cleaner, she now works as Head of Animation at the Royal College of Art in London.

ABOUT

Maya Petrovna is an operatic crossover alto, film composer, multi-instrumentalist, and hybrid performance–costume artist. Her live music shows are immersive art performances inspired by surrealism, vessels for which Maya composes original music, designs scenery and authentic costumes, pivotal to the narrative, unearthing shared reflections.

Maya Petrovna’s performances include solo show The Womb of Universe and The Boob Monster,  at sold-out Sydney Opera House’s Club Kooky and the official 2019 Sydney VIVID opening. Her operatic act, Moth, served as the closing number during multiple residencies at the renowned London's Box Soho. For her solo show, Futura Monomania, Maya wrote a contemporary opera fusion with open-throat singing, designing six costumes to represent alienated beings in a futuristic utopia, exploring unity versus individuality.

Her solo shows have toured Europe extensively, including the Rome and Sarajevo International Film Festivals, London Fashion week, headlining Berlin and Croatia Art Festivals, Prague SWAN, and for Venice AWAI, among others.

Maya has composed orchestral scores for Set to Screen series about film Australia (Baz Luhrmann), a Tourism Australia Global Campaign, a spot featuring Annie Leibovitz, and Suzie Lovitt’s film about Jude Law’s son.
