Already one of my favorite sets and right up there with Miss Melera’s 2014 DGTL set who, go figure, also played GusGus – Crossfade (Maceo Plex remix). But this reminds you why you love house music. The set has that drive which keeps you dancing but also that ethereal sound to really let you float away in your thoughts, time and space. 2022 was my first and, for now, only burn and this set really brings out all the great memories of that first Playa experience.

Here's the set I played at the magical mezcal amores experience in the middle of the agave fields in mitla, oaxaca between 12:30 - 3:30 am first weekend of March 2022

This set was recorded live in Playa Venao, Panama for Weekend 2 of Reactor Venao festival. I played from 1:00-4:00am inside of the Reactor project and was really feeding off of the high energy from the dancefloor during the entire 3 hours -- it was such an epic and unforgettable night. “This was the first night back on the playa since 2019, and also the first night of my first burn. I was still getting my bearings, and now here we were, biking in search of the famed Mayan Warrior in the middle of a dust storm with nearly whiteout conditions — it was one of those surreal images of Burning Man that will be with me forever.

We followed the art car into the dust until it parked in front of the “Reflection” art piece. Once aboard the Mayan, I was stunned by the sea of colorful lights illuminating the dark desert, a scene beyond imagination. This set is the result of the incomparable, pulsating energy from everyone around me — it was like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

To have had the opportunity to play for the 10 year anniversary of Mayan Warrior was a huge honor. Thank you to the entire MW crew who made this dream come true, and to everyone who came out to support and welcome me home. xx Julya ”

To be very honest, the original one has some issues so I edited with the help of my rekordbox history, maybe some moments of tension created by looping or adding effects are not here, but I hope it does not disturb your listening experience.

Doyeq - Mayan Warrior - Tulum 2024

I was thinking about all the long waits in line for Burning Man tickets over the years and decided to give some of you something to listen to while the walking person icon slowly makes its way across the screen holding all our hopes in its little tiny pixel hands. 

The wait time  is usually about as long as it took to get from one side of the playa to the other last year after it rained and the playa shrimp rose up to attempt to take over the world!! 

Burning Mud. Mudding man. Raining man. Remember the wild stories (all from the outside media or Diplo and Chris Rock) vs the kindness and generosity of strangers out on the playa. I hope, even if faced with adversity last year, maybe, just maybe, you also saw how wonderful people can be when called upon in a ‘crisis’. 

I was lucky enough to stay until Tuesday night and grateful to still get to play a sunrise on the Robot Heart albeit a few days later than planned. There was so much love in the air that (finally) beautiful morning. If you missed it or want to listen once more or are just bored and looking for something to distract you while waiting in line for this years tickets (I’ll be waiting too) then here’s burning man/mud/magic 2023.  Feel the love in the air and the tickle of playa shrimp on the soles of your feet.

Mayan Warrior is the result of a collaborative project that has united artists, craftsmen, photographers, designers, technologists, architects and musicians from Mexico City and Northern California. 

The project’s original intent was to present to the world the incredible ascent of contemporary Mexican electronic music while paying respect to the deep and ancient sources from which that visual and auditory culture had grown.


Both light and sound are curated by some of the world’s most prominent artists to transport participants to the very origins of the culture – and to a new understanding of contemporary electronic expression.

AND YES: Mayan Warrior is driven from Mexico City to the playa – and back – each year. It's a labor of love and we're glad so many people enjoy it.
