We can be found lost in love, when we desire to be found in love. 
We need to be reminded that we can find clarity and healing in the warmth of the sun. 
I encourage you to never lose hope.

Maylene Slater-Burns, on stage known as Maylene Yinarr, is a singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Victoria on Kulin lands. Maylene writes to inspire conversations about identity and vulnerability. Her soft ballads are haunting, uplifting and thought-provoking.

Through her parents, Maylene is part of the Kamilaroi, Wiradjuri, Kuku Djungan, and Gangalidda Aboriginal nations. She has family ties to the Yanyuwa, Kuku Yalanji, Arrente, Walpirri, Yorta Yorta, Latji Latji, Wemba Wemba, Gunditjmara, Yuin, Worimi, Ngunnawal, Ngambri and Kulin nations. Kulin is home.

Maylene is a proud activist for Aboriginal self-determination and loudly calls for Federal Government reform over the treatment of First Nations people in Australia.

Listening for the sounds of the land and the universe.

Away from performances, Maylene is the Deputy Chairperson of Songlines Aboriginal Music Corporation, the state peak body supporting Indigenous artists and music based in Victoria. 

She co-runs Mindful Mob, a platform to encourage healing in blackfullas and share quotes, thoughts and inspirations relating to mindfulness, inner life and spirituality. 

Maylene was previously a member of the Dhumba Committee at TEAR Australia, delivered National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day (2014-2018) at SNAICC - National Voice for our Children and assists in all things creative to blackfulla music, healing and expression.
