Currently splitting his time between Nairobi and Berlin, Bush of Ghosts is the alter-ego of UK-born David Tinning. The Santuri East Africa co-founder and long-time Cashmere Radio host shows off his eclectic and expansive collection of glistening electro-acoustic music from around the globe. Spanning decades, continents and micro-scenes, with a distinct focus on polyrhythmic percussion and tumbling time-signatures, we are delighted to welcome him to the series.

In David’s own words, “…this mix was a real pleasure to put together - it contains some of the pieces I play on my Bush of Ghosts show on Cashmere Radio, when I’m feeling more of the meditative / beatless vibes. There's music here from some favourites such as Jonny Nash (opening and closing and the mix), Vivian Koch, Space Africa, Alejandro Mosso, Brian Eno and Micheal Brook, as well as some sounds from my current location in East Africa - including Msafiri Zawose and Sven Karicek.”

The Swiss-based record label re:st continues with a streak of brilliant releases with the latest outing, 'Collective Vision EP' from one of our favorite producers Adam O'Hara aka The Vision Reels. 
The 'Collective Vision EP' consists of six cinematic and spacious experiments, including one collaboration with DB1. These tracks dive into the more experimental side of The Vision Reels output, with most of the tracks originating from early ideas in live studio set-ups. 
Our premiere for today, the title track, Collective Vision, is a tranquil, pleasant journey in which layers of noise waves, deep undercurrents, and melancholy pads blur the lines somewhere between the ambient and the cinematic. 

The Collective Vision EP is coming out on April 13 via re:st

Behold the pearl, a phenomenon singular in nature. An evolutionary eccentricity, a manifestation of inadvertent beauty. Effulgent objects fashioned by perfect mistake. Each a gemstone forged by the living: a consummate union of the biological and the geological.

This in mind, consider 'Yeoville,' the latest from artist Brendon Moeller. Listen to its radiant accords, or chords of radiance. Swirl, and unfurl, its amber waves of dub. Locate in echoes its memory — or yours. And then, so attuned, hear it: the breath of the machine. Iridescent. Organic. The process of transmutation, one thing becoming another. It is a blessing undisguised.

'Yeoville was recorded in my basement home studio between August and November of 2021. Ambient music has been a huge part of my life since around 1986 when I was listening to David Sylvian and Cocteau Twins. Releases by KLF, The Orb and Angelo Badalamenti would inspire me to dive even deeper. The inspiration for these tracks was a desire to create drones and rhythmic drones. There’s no greater feeling than getting all the machines droning, then kicking back in the studio and letting the ambience roll on for the rest of the day. It’s a great pleasure and honor to share these tracks with you. I hope they bring you as much joy as they have me.' - Brendon Moeller

The artist’s menial employment at a nightclub is explored in his third solo release, Coatcheck. In it, Zeisig carves a series of surreal apertures for viewing the club’s framework of workplace behavior and patron expectation. These viewpoints are so immersed and encoded in the physical and economic structures of the club that they sound far removed, or completely distinct—marking the realities of wage laborers who enable the necessary but still fantastical “escape” from capitalist drudgery.

The record presents different atmospheres and acoustics of the club—a place where people go to escape their working lives and release their inhibitions—from the perspective of a person working there. Functioning as a conceptual map of the space, each track on the album follows a different location of the building, activity, and mood of the worker. Instead of thundering beats and whirling debauchery, the artist yields the sounds of structures hidden from view but necessary to the production of public space.

The album is a meditation on the contradiction inherent in supposedly free and progressive spaces, which are in many ways the same as any capitalist institution in terms of what’s experienced by their menial workers and marginalized attendees. In an attempt to provide an auditory and psychic balm to the listener in recognition of this fact, Zeisig draws upon his extensive research and practice of ASMR phenomena during the recording process. A cultural sonic development that is located most often in the privacy of one’s home and head, such techniques are explored as a means of challenging the rules and arrangements that guide the club.  

All proceeds go to Women In Exile, a Berlin-based organization dedicated to helping women and families seeking refugee status and resettlement in Germany.
 
Florian T M Zeisig holds a master’s degree in sound arts from Universität der Künste Berlinand, and is a current excellence student of Prof. Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto). His solo and collaborative work as half of the duo OCA has been released by labels such as Important Records/Cassauna, Anòmia, Constellation Tatsu and Métron Records. Recent collaborations include a feature on Kelela’s Aquaphoria mixtape and a remix for Loraine James. He has presented installation and performance work at institutions such as Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Cafe OTO, and Hangar Barcelona, amongst others.
