With Shakedown now bringing their irresistible groove to 'I Wanna Rock You', Swiss brothers Mandrax & Seb K have played a key role over the years in continuing to push House music forward. First launching in 1999, it was their 2002 single 'At Night' that saw the duo explode on to the international scene - with the record charting across multiple territories, going Top 10 in the UK & still going strong on big floors to this day.

For the next release on his MB Disco label, Martin Brodin licences "Nka mo dira" - one of the biggest downloads in South African music history, which has also had its music video voted as the best of the year by The Star newspaper. The track then gets some fine remix treatment from the boss himself as well as Full Pupp label boss and disco pin up Prins Thomas. 

And it is Thomas who goes first, known the world over as one of disco’s foremost innovators, he is boss at Internajsonal label and has his own singular sound that takes its cues from prog rock and kraut as much as disco past and present. What he does with the South African Music Award winning DJ and producer Nutty Nys’s track is very special indeed. 

Over the course of nine minutes it builds in lush layers of pinging kick drums, rasping synth riffs and mellow but meticulous and glowing golden chords. The original’s vocal is left in place and echoes in the spaces between Thomas’s carefully crafted arrangements, calling the dancefloor
to arms as it goes. The latter half is characterised by glinting arps and an ever present sense of crescendo that never really breaks, instead teasing you pleasingly right until the end.

And so to the label boss’s remix, which has been crafted at the same time as future projects like remixes for Southern Fried and Nang as well as new collabs with one of the members of Scissor Sisters. It’s a slow and purposeful, gluey track of wooden beats and more metallic synths. That contrast is key to it being such an alluring and perfectly party starting record stuffed with tribal atmospheres, the humidity of the South Africa in which it was made and plenty of freewheeling melodies. Rich and detailed, layered and dense, there is still plenty of space within for each element to gleam and glow brightly.

Yet another fine package from the ever on-point disco outlet that is MB Disco, then.

The next package from the ever-busy MB Disco label is a whopping and wonderful collection of remixes of British/Polish duo The KDMS’s hit single ‘Part Time Lovers’. Originally released on Gomma, it has been fully licensed to the label who serve it up here in original form as well as with remixes from Leaves & Iron Curtis, Acid Washed, label boss Martin Brodin, Copycat, Peter Visti and Nirosta Steel. 

The KDMS have proven themselves fine purveyors of disco funk and deep down boogie, turning the heads of press and punters alike in the process. Their single, ‘Part Time Lovers’ is a breezy and dreamy bit of instrument rich disco with dazzling synths and uplifting vocals and is ripe for remixing, so it’s no wonder MB Disco have decided to do just that.

First up is German producer and an associate of both Smallville and Tensnake’s Mirau label, Iron Curtis. He turns in two remixes; the first strips the track back to drums and percussion and lays in a monstrous and wobbling bassline before laying the vocal back on the top. It’s a direct deep house number with plenty of anthemic potential while his other contribution is a vocal-less dub for the real heads that features some classic sampling you will most certainly recognise! 

Next up are French duo Acid Washed who release on the legendary Record Makers label. Fresh from the release of their album House of Melancholy the pair reimagines ‘Part Time Lovers’ as a louche bit of synthy disco pop. There is plenty of cosmic energy and celestial energy within the glistening synths and hip-swaying hand claps and it’s such a fine rework it’s hard to imagine it isn’t an original track in itself.

Label head and revered producer Martin Brodin goes for an uplifting hosue cum disco vibe with his remix. Leaving in the drama of the original vocals, there are plenty of grinding analogue basslines buried deep within the shimmering, uplifting remix.

Next up, Swedish nu-disco don and Eskimo label friend Copycat calls in all his influences from Italo to cosmic to Balearic to conjure up the dense and bristling sonic collage that is his arp-ridden remix. Its high energy but retails a soulful feel thanks to the vocals whilst fellow Eskimo producer and Danish disco deviant Peter Visti keeps things much deeper and slightly trippier. His drums judder along a bumpy groove with heavenly harmonies ringing out up top and a gurgling bassline keeping things perfectly aligned for the ancefloor.

The final two remixes come from Nirosta Steel, who is actually Steven Hall. Hall also works as part of the much loved Arthur’s Landing project – a group of musicians who formerly worked with cult music genius Arthur Russell. This moniker is something of a secret and underground project and the music matches that. The Eastwood remix is a totally deconstructed reworking that features heavily filtered vocals, some amazing twanging guitar strums which take you straight to a hazy summer beach and the whole thing in drowned in echo, much like the work of Arthur Russell. An instrumental is also included. 

This is a very healthy package that genuinely offers plenty of different, and equally essential, takes on the great original by The KDMS and confirms MB Disco to be one of the genre’s finest assets when it comes to taking the genre forward.

Martin Brodin's venerated MB Disco label is back with standout remixes of his 2005 classic 'Semitone Shuffle' by Lauer and the boss himself.

Swedish artist Martin Brodin has been deeply involved in the global house and disco scene fordecades. He initially founded this label in 2010 - and the MB Edits sub-label in 2013 - and has put outclassics by Chicken Lips, Ray Man and Psychemagik. His productions on labels like Nang, Southern Fried and Buzzin Fly have very much defined the modern scene, none more so than epic 2005 cut 'Semitone Shuffle.' Now, after something of a hiatus, big new remixes of the original mark the welcome
return of the MB Disco label.

The first is from legendary German artist Lauer. He is one half of Tuff City Kids and Black Spuma, and an esteemed house producer for labels like Clone, Running Back and Permanent Vacation. His version is a melodic epic, a real house workout with pixelated pads raining down on the taught, arpeggiated bass. When some old-school chords arrive at the midpoint, the club is sure to take off.

Brodin then steps up with his fantastic Hulabaluba Remix, which is a much more party starting and disco-fried version. The drums loop down low, the luxurious chords are warm and full of colour and the whole track exudes class.

These are two very different but equally effective new remixes from the revived MB Disco.

Martin Brodin - Semitone Shuffle (Lauer Remix)

Swedish DJ/producer Martin Brodin shares a groovy remix from Kraak & Smaak of his single 'Don't Stop The Dance', a dancefloor worthy rendition of Bryan Ferry's original of the same name from 1985. With Martin's love of music fully forming in the 80s, the track and the remix is an homage to his roots.
 
With a silky bassline and addicting cowbell and drum hits, Kraak & Smaak put an all—encompassing groove into their version of 'Don't Stop The Dance'. A suave guitar riff can be heard throughout, morphing and bending through various effects, keeping us on our toes. The echoing vocals take us back to another time, and waves of nostalgia are sure to fire up the dancefloor.

Martin Brodin is a Swedish DJ, producer, and most importantly a music lover. Martin is the force behind MB Disco. Founded in 2010, the label has released remixes of Newcleus and Giorgio Moroder, Brodin’s debut LP and new material from Psychemagik, Ray Mang and others. The MB Edits sub-label was launched in 2013, well ahead of the current edits trend.

Before MB Disco, Martin ran Deeplay Music and Deeplay Soultec. Deeplay Music was a key Deep House label, whilst Deeplay Soultec did what the name suggests. Brodin’s labels have always been an outlet for his own music, but he has also released tracks on imprints such as Southern Fried, Compost, Buzzin Fly and Nang. 

Martin’s productions have appeared on mix CDs from DJs as diverse as Carl Cox, Nick Warren, Andrew Weatherall and Claude VonStroke. As a remixer, Martin’s highlights are his revisions of Sky by Human League for Wall of Sound, Giorgio Moroder’s the Chase and Visage’s She’s Electric. His first DJ mix CD was compilation of the month in IDJ Magazine, back in 2005. As a DJ, Martin has played everywhere from London to Tokyo.

In terms of influences, his serious interest in music began in the 1980s, captivated by the likes of Yello, Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk. Martin found House music through Lil Louis’ French Kiss in the early 1990s. His passion for Disco began with First Choice’s Dr Love. Today, Martin Brodin is still an active producer, DJ and label boss.

We play tribute to legendary Giorgio Moroder’s 1979 classic and seminal Italo-Synth-Disco tune with our Italian Connection remix package.  The original is taken from the album with the same name released on Casablanca Records which also features I Wanna Rock You. Moroder’s career spans over five decades starting in the sixtees. He is a three-time Oscar-winning and two-time Grammy award-winning record producer, songwriter and performer (Top Gun, Flashdance, Midnight Express). He is also known for working with artists like, Donna Summer, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury. We can write many pages with interesting stuff around his work, but this release is about the remixes.

We invited two of the most influential people in the early eightees Italo-Electronic scene. How about Alexander Robotnick, (real name Maurizio Dami), that we all know from his groundbreaking track from 1983 Problèmes D'Amour. A track that originally came out on Italian label Fuzz Dance and created a world-wide stir and still today are played amongst trend setters.  He continued working during the ninetees with various projects and is now back in the last years being very active in the Nu-Disco scene.   

Secondly we’re very thrilled about having Daniele Baldelli in this project. One of the true pioneers in the Cosmic Disco scene in Italy. Being the resident at Cosmic club in Lazise between 1979-84 and also playing at the Baia Degli Angeli club in Gabicce, where he mixed space disco oddities with all kind of eclectic music from that era. If you’re lucky enough to own one of his super rare Cosmic Tapes, then you understand what it was all about. Many claim him to be one of the best Dj’s ever.

Another old-skooler we invited is Klein & MBO, who released some classics on Atlantic in early eightees such as Wonderful, Dirty Talk and The MBO Theme.

On the more recent notes we have Rodion (Gomma, Eskimo , Nang), Dionigi (Quantic Division) I-Robots (Opilec Music) and L.I.S.
All in all, the remixers didn’t mess up with the original to much. I beleive they treated it with gentle hands and just added their trademark sounds to it. Ok, the I-Robots mix took another angle with it’s deep tribal version but I feel it works nice anyway.

First release in the new year from MB Disco. Danish producer Mike Salta with his Miami Vice homage, Escape From Rico Bay. He is companioned by some of the most respected producers in the scene today. Remixes comes by Drop Out Orchestra, Sare Havlicek, Peter Visti. And as a special bonus we include the 13 minute long remix Drop Out Orchestra did. 

Mike Salta started out in the early 80’s as a DJ, music aficionado, record collector and producer at the italo disco scene. Based on a focal point in the late 70’s disco, balearic and funk era, the addition of his first Moog became his destiny. Growing into house music was a natural revelation along the journey, experimenting with technology and reflections of music unfolding sounds for soul and dancefloor. 

With 25 years of experience gathered from gigs all over the globe and engagements under various alter egos, Mike Salta has returned to the roots up the retro house alley. As a producer, experimenting with ingredients from balearic, boogie and nu-disco, to Chigago and Detroit sounds of the early 90’s without aiming at a specific genre. Music is supposed to be a feeling.

Legendary Giorgio Moroder is back on MB Disco. This time we present one of his biggest tracks ever, especially in the disco/dance/club scene. Released back in 1977 on Casablanca Records. The track featured  on the same titled album and is considered as one of the albums that influenced lots of the following techno/house producers in Detroit and Chicago.
For this special occasion we invited the crème de la crème of Belgium and made an exclusive Belgian connection release. What about these names: Aeroplane, Compuphonic, Attar! and Fusty Delights.

Aeroplane delivers what he does best, a vocal party Nu-Disco stomper that has all the elements for getting the party started. Same goes for Attar! who step it up a bit with his version. A rougher Nu-Disco take with some old skool elements in there to make it even more interesting. After all the hype of  Nu-Disco, we have to take it down a bit and what wouldn’t be better doing it with Compuphonic. They flirt heavily with the dubby aspects of the Deep House scene with their dubby-cosmic-almost minimal Deep House version. Lastly, but not least, Fusty Delights comes up with a funky suggestive and very atmospheric remix that gets into your deepest soul.

As a bonus on this digital release we give two additional remixes from Daryl and Antilope.
The remixers surely doesn’t need any further introduction but just to a reminder. They featured on labels like, Eskimo, Wall Of Sound, Get Physical, Kitsune, Ed Banger and Turbo just to name a few.

We can write countless of pages about the history and achievements of Mr. Moroder but we believe  you music lovers knows some of the history already and therefore we won’t bother with it. However, for you who recently found out about him, here’s a small selection of works he’s been part of:

- Wrote many of Donna Summer’s biggest songs/albums. I Feel Love were one of the finest moments.
- Scored the music for movies like Scarface, Top Gun, Flashdance and Midnight Express.
- 3 time Oscar winner
- Wrote music for people like, Freddie Mercury, Blondie, David Bowie and Limahl

What is the common factor between Giorgio Moroder, Ray Mang, Leroy Burgess, Ilija Rudman and Newcleus? Well, they are all part of the new MB DISCO label hailing from Sweden. It is masterminded by Martin Brodin, the founder of Deeplay Music. With this label he wanted to go back to his Disco roots. Disco Music has always been in Martin’s blood and now he felt it was time to play tribute to it. So how has he done it? The answer is very simple, mix up the old disco feeling with modern sound.

We can call it Nu-Disco, Post-Disco, Disco for 2010 or whatever suits you. For Martin it’s just about the feeling for what he believes is Disco. We will release old-skool super limited 10” vinyl records (yes we’re crazy!!) together with the modern digital downloads to keep our self in the loop of the todays business.

If the legendary Loft was still around, people would probably jump around of joyness. Shining disco balls, hands in the air, roller skating girls, lollipops and a touch of Larry Levan.
