Cocoon Recordings welcomes Pele & Shawnecy for his Cocoon 12" debut. Without any doubt the Rosenheim resident is one of the fastest rising names in Germany. The bavarian tech-house-hero has built up an impressive reputation over the last two years. His driving and testosterone loaded productions and remixes can be found in many top notch dj-sets and charts. Pele is a master of kicking tech-house and his style of incorporating chords and vocals create real peaktime highlights. There is no escape when the sound of Pele kicks in on your PA system!

 

SHAWNECY native Persian, who shows musical fully controversial direction. Michael Jackson's hip, he sings and dances for various chart and show acts, and also working as a choreographer and dancer. Both together started to produce music end of 2010 when Shawnecy moved from FFM to Rosenheim.

 

Their first 12" for Cocoon Recordings is no exception here. With "Can't Wait" they deliver the next peaktime highlight just in time for this years summer season start. Merging house and techno this one should make fans of Harvey McKay, Santos and Guy Gerber happy which makes it a perfect release for us. The Flipside "Can't Leave" slows down a bit and looks more at the deeper side. While "Can't Wait" is a proper peaktime monster "Can't Leave" should work out great on the next afterhour and keeps the party going and going. The right sound to welcome the sun after a hot night... change your sneakers for flipflops and check your mirrorshades and let's start dancing to the beat and bassline of "Can't Wait".

 

The digital bonus track "You And Me" seems to be a dub version of "Can't Leave" at first glance. However the more you hear it to more it starts to progress into an unique and very hypnotic track. One of these tunes that don't let you leave the floor and you wish it would go on and on forever. "You And Me" would be a perfect track to make it into a locked groove at the end of your vinyl... well, if it wouldn't be digi only ;)

'Walking Through Flames' starts proceedings with its moody deep vibes that subtly build, layered with mysterious pads, adding depth and creating tension. The softly spoken female vocal continues the mood further, making this a serious moment for the dance floor.

'Suburbs of A Secret’ continues the deepness, but here we find a cinematic vibe, with its wonderful layers and tripped out feel. The fantastic vocals again really add that extra layer of sophistication.

Rockets and Ponies returns for its latest release of 2015 courtesy of Russian-born Alexey Shlykov, aka Mr. Pepper, titled Phi Ratio. This newest artist to the label has his focus on live instrumentation, fusing it with minimal and techno elements to form a cohesive punchy sound.

The whole EP conjures up the atmosphere of sun-soaked terraces in Ibiza, beginning with Just Do featuring Elisha’s vocals. Roadtested by label boss Timo Maas to “incredible reactions” all summer, the track combines dark piano stabs with repetitive deep atmospheric vocals. Each track is suited to different hours of the day, you could say that Sunflower signifies the rising sun, turning people’s attention from Just Do’s deepness to the floating melody of Glance, which moves in and out of focus, sustained by raw and engulfing tribal percussion. The title track, Phi Ratio twins a rolling bassline with distorted synth sections and to round off proceedings we have Sky Underfoot, perfectly treading the middle-ground between after party and main-room dancing.

The EP "Trapped in Time", released by the Berlin label WHATIPLAY is the first result of a cooperation between Marian Herzog and Modshape. Berlin-based like Marian Herzog, the DJ duo produces deep techno. The collaboration however, is a mix of powerful technobeats and playful melodies. The orginals "Trapped in Time" and "Keepsake" are already enticing musical works, while the "Trapped in Time" remix from label boss Sascha Braemer unites them into a wonderful release.

We've been waiting patiently to present Sam Davies' debut Silk Music release for some time now, as a pair of tracks by the Toronto-based talent was previewed on our "Silk Royal Showcase 05" compilation, back in September 2015. These two uplifting cuts, "Sunbound" and "Unwind", are now joined by "Cosmos", an equally memorable offering. From uplifting progressive to after-hours chillout, Sam's extraordinary 3-track EP offers a flavor for all tastes.

The release kicks off with "Sunbound", a peak-hour melodic progressive gem, in the "classical" tradition of the genre. Specifically, an uplifting chord sequence is joined by radiant pads and an inspiring vocal motif. The track continues to crescendo toward the breakdown, where we are treated to a stripped down piano and vocal solo. After a short progressive breaks interlude, the climactic drop leaves the listener in a state of rapture.

The subsequent cut, "Cosmos", features a deep and dark bassline groove, as well as a variety of deep, evocative, and occasionally otherworldly melodic themes. Ethereal pads and an exceeding beautiful, world music-inspired vocal highlight the unforgettable breakdown.

Finally, "Unwind", which served as Tom Fall's intro to his "Silk Royal Showcase 05" mix, returns the listener to the Balearic vibes that are established in "Sunbound". However, rather than closing out the EP with a 4/4 dance track, Sam treats us to a mellifluous, sun-kissed chillstep masterpiece. Heavenly pads and gorgeous piano themes play prominently in this relaxing and life-affirming tune.

Matt Nouveau from London first found his love of the deeper vibes long ago in a previous musical life.

Though his weekly Nocturnal Nouveau podcast on iIunes he has made the musical connections with the world of deep house over the last few years and began producing his own twist on this genre of music for his new imprint Nocturnal Nouveau. The first production “One More Night In Stars” is now on promo with a handful of DJ’s and the 2nd production “The Beast” is soon to follow with the audio premiere of the Matt Nouveau remix right here on DHL. With an album in the making and almost half way to completion, expect the first single release anytime soon.

"The Beast" started life as a string and piano arrangement, Internal deep bringing on the beats both meshing in a very organic musical style. Bulgarian folk singer Poli Hubavenska who resides in London has been working with Matt for some years now on various projects. Her ethereal chanting reminiscent of those you would hear in a Hans Zimmer production add the mystic to the mood of the story of the beast told in an almost narration style by Alice Rose from the Netherlands. The Matt Nouveau remix strips things down the the vocals and builds everything from the foundations delivering more of a futuristic twist on the song with more electronic elements and new atmospheres.
