Without wanting to get all conspiratorial or too academic on the matter, apparently the fact its much better than and doesn't mix great with alcohol if the reason its in the same class as crack and smack. I went to a talk by professor Nut, uk uk drugs zar that got sacked for saying mdma and acid are less harmful than alcohol. Anyway long story short-ish, the government is both under a lot of pressure from the drinks industry and has many MP's who have direct investment in the industry. So when kids started spending there 'leisure' money on pills and raving instead of down the pub like good little boys the government freaked out and stamped on rave culture, passing laws to stop warehouse and outdoor parties and making MDMA a class A drug as well as spreading the same kind of bullshit misinformation about MDMA as they did with LSD in the 60's "it will damage  your DNA and you'll jump out of a window and kill you're self etc. Basically they felt threatened. Awayway, rant over, top tune cheers fella it made my morning :)
