DJ HELL x Roteliebe (Cologne) (SEPT 2023)

Zetacode aka Russian artist Denis Gurgutsa debuts on CZ with the solid techno grooves of In. Hailing from the seemingly remote Novosibirsk, Russia, this guy has been churning out quality Techno since 2008, and in 2009 his track Aquarius on Toyfriend Music was remixed by techno master A.Paul. Denis' work has also been released on several other labels including Prozak Records, Tech People Music and Club Royale to name just a few. An impressively talented artist with a lot to offer, delighted to have him on board at CZ.

In sets out with a tribal techno vibe thanks to those tuned drums and pumping kicks. Gritty synths fade in as percussions intensify while rhythms form up nicely as we settle into the groove. Subtle notes deliver a retro sound as the track draws you in with its hypnotic allure. On the break we are met with some cool funky keys that add a lot of character to the sound as the tougher techno elements power on relentlessly. A top notch effort that will not disappoint.

Disclosure intros with a punchy kick alongside subby drums and a pulsing synth note. Deep bassy synths come through as the percussions build into a solid rhythmic groover before a sharp metallic shot is introduced. The rhythmic prowess of the track stands out courtesy of expertly crafted, intricate patterns. Big piano chord stabs burst through to the backdrop of subtle arpeggio style twinkling keys. Stark contrasts in the sound are drawn leaving us with a tight workout in the techno arena. Excellent stuff that is not to be missed.

CZ035 1. Zetacode - In

Belfast based DJ and producer Conor Doherty aka Just Doc marks his CZ debut with the impressive two track slice entitled Remorse. We normally find Conor as one half of Orenda with fellow Irishman Louis Irvine, and the pair have enjoyed a few releases already on some of our labels. Conor loves to get deep into the Techno sound and this cut is no exception. He also delves into several other genres and he showcases his musical imagination at his Primitive sessions on Sunday afternoons at popular Belfast spot - Love & Death Inc. Lots more to come from this guy in the future, so well worth keeping an eye and an ear on.

Remorse delivers a solid deep techno groove filled with punchy kick drums and rhythmic percussions that will definitely keep the floors busy. On the low end we find a deep rumbling bassline that mesmerizes with its sub level charm. Very subtle synth notes hypnotize as the percussions give off an industrial vibe. One for the techno purists here who will love the minimal construction, top notch. 

Reborn takes us on a retro themed journey deep into techno. Right from the off we get lured into the dark techno groove as a pacey drum arrangement takes hold. A deep subby bass lies on the low end while striking hi hat slice through the low frequencies adding stark contrasts in the sound. The big hitter here though is the super tight percussion and mysterious FX that will make sure this one gets a lot of attention.

CZ036 1. Just Doc. - Remorse

Jakarta based Indonesian producer Ecilo debuts on CZ with the sublime Space Loops Creation which comprises three solid Techno slices that will get the floors moving no doubt. In his early years Ecilo was deeply influenced by P-Funk, Detroit Techno and the Chicago House era. He is fond of deep, soulful and funky sounds in his music. Even in the most menacing techno sound he will find a way to get some grooviness in the mix. As a Producer, he currently has releases on Chicago based label Deep Hype Sounds, Answegg Records (FRA), O.X.O Records (CH) and Finegrind Audio (CA). To top it all off, he is also the main man behind a live electronic Jazz band called Interstellar Space. As a DJ he has been known to wreck many floors, with an impeccable selection throughout his sets. It wasnít long before he was a favourite securing resident on the local circuit, and eventually abroad. He has played in several countries including Canada, USA, Vietnam and the Philippines. With a healthy dose of Jazz, Funk and Soul in his House and Techno sounds, he is equally adapted to a Rare Groove set if the mood should strike. Delighted to have him here at CZ and we hope to see more from him soon.

Space Loops Creation No 1 delivers a solid techno joint complete with pounding beats and a classic style chord stab structure. A deep pulsing bassline provides a strong backbone to the track that bassbins are bass junkies are really going to love a lot. The track moves along at a steady pace, hooking us in, while various other synths come through creating a superb multi layered sequence. Excellent stuff that is not to be missed.

Space Loops Creation No 2 is a fine slice of Techno thanks to some very cool synth play and filtering. Driving the groove is a tight, punchy kick drum and rhythmic hat set up while a strong plucky bass keeps the low end rocking. The movement on the bassline is fantastic and will certainly translate very well on the floors. Top notch Techno for those that know what good Techno sounds like.

Space Loops Creation No 3 rounds up this superb pack in raucous style thanks to harsh stabbing synths and some very cool vox FX. Pumping beats and intricate hi hat patterns deliver a solid rhythm to the track as a powerful bassline dominates the low frequencies. Surreal strings and pads float overhead adding lots of depth making this a definite must have.

CZ038 2. Ecilo - Space Loops Creation No 2

Van Czar and Protyv join forces on the superb four tracker Sand Memories and they sure do deliver the goods in style with two original cuts and two solid remixes. Van Czar is CZ head honcho and an all round Techno maestro. He has seen a plethora of quality releases on Bonzai Basiks as well as KMS and several other top labels. When he's not rocking the studio he's rocking a joint with his tight sets that keep the floors happy. Protyv is no stranger to CZ and his last outing - Bliss, gained great support. From a young age he was learning music from his family and by learning the piano. In 2004 he found electronic music and the transition was effortless given his talents from years of practice. Always great to have him back for more and no doubt we'll be seeing him again soon.

The Original Mix of Sand Memories takes us on a sublime journey deep into the inner workings of a subdued chilled out groove. A solid drum arrangement lies at the centre of the groove as it keeps a steady rhythmic pace. On the low end we find wonderfully warm basses that contract perfectly with mesmeric pads and very subtle hypnotic keys. Excellent stuff that will definitely be a welcome addition in any set. 

French brothers David and Nicolas Gaugain aka G-Prod return to CZ and it's been a while since their last outing here. It was back in November 2016 when we last saw them with the excellent Purple Maze. Here they take up remix duties on Sand Memories resulting in a sublime slice of Techno. On the remix the guys have once again proven their magic touch. A nice chunky kick drum leads the way alongside rhythmic percussions. The big hitter here is that hypnotic bassline that gets right under your skin with its soft alluring charm. Subtle melodies litter the background giving the imagination something to latch onto. Beautifully crafted and a definite must have.

The Lounge Mix of Sand Memories takes us much deeper than previous incarnations. Right from the off you get a tangible sense of depth thanks to that probing bass and low end pads filled with dark elements. An intensity is evident which builds slowly as the track progresses but, there is no release, that intense feeling stays the course making this the perfect fodder for any building set.Infinita intros with a beautifully crafted arrangement filled with shuffling percussions, hypnotic pulses and a mesmerizing pad that moves effortlessly through the sound. Fantastic chunky kick drums soon come through to provide a solid structure that will get the feet moving to the floors for sure. The track boasts a very rich characteristic which is shown through the ever rising pads and teasing melodics. Superb stuff that will not disappoint.

Alongside the Belgian Embassy in Spain, Van Czar is honoured to represent Belgium at "La Navideña - Feria Internacional de las Culturas" @ Matadero Madrid.
This is an event for all publics.

The prolific Belgian dj and producer Van Czar has prepared for his show a retrospective of the electronic music from its start till nowadays.
His set will only include Belgian music, it won't be difficult though, given that Belgium has had a generous impulse and great legacy on this genre.
He will pay a special tribute to the label which has trusted him the most, "Bonzai Music", Belgian label and one of the forerunners of the electronic music since 1992 until now leaving an indelible imprint on our mamories, which is also celebrating its 25th Anniversary.
Van Czar will also play some of the greatest Belgian hits as Technotronic or 2 Unlimited mixed with his very own music.

He is a member of the well-known labels Bonzai and KMS Records (Detroit - USA), Resident dj at "Areia Colonial Chill Out" under his alias "Disco Van" (Madrid - Spain) and he has got lots of tracks which are being played all around the globe and supported by all the international music scene. Van Czar is active on the dj circuit and definitely not to be missed.

Based in Spain nowadays, Van Czar grew up in Brussels, Belgium and he was very keen on listening and thinking about music. He is a versatile artist who produces what he feels in every moment. Detroit Techno and Chicago House sounds are at the forefront of his music vision. Van Czar has a special ability to engage with the crowd, he adapts to any kind of gig or event he takes part in and he loves clubby atmospheres as well as more hype events. From the age of just 12 he was able to understand music and the processes involved within it. At 14 he got his first piece of equipment and has not looked back since. In the early days Van was playing Belgian hard trance as he was heavily influenced by the Cherrymoon Club and Bonzai sound. Van now is at the forefront of a dynamic industry and he has the tools to stay there. His tracks have seen big support on the DJ circuit from artists like Derrick May, Ben Sims, Richie Hawtin, Joseph Capriati, Kevin Saunderson, M.A.N.D.Y, and more. On his releases he has collaborated with artists like Dantiez & Kevin Saunderson, Samuel L Session, Martin Eyerer, Orlando Voorn, Brendon Moeller and Marcin Czubala to name just a few. The time has come to welcome Van Czar to Cherry Moon Records family with his 'Rush' EP; 3 high quality, straight forward techno floorfillers. Groovy but powerfull none the less. Delighted having Van Czar on the roster and no doubt we will see much more in the future.

Techno Weapons 2019 is the latest in a string of quality releases from CZ over the last few years. Attention to quality is always at the forefront and is once again manifested here. 8 top-notch cuts from a host of artists cover the complete Techno spectrum, so there is definitely something for those late-night, hot and sweaty sessions. This compilation is the brain-child of our label head-honcho, Van Czar, whose vision for CZ remains strong.
Van is up first with Mbappe which offers a solid, punchy Techno joint filled with a rich analogue sound and accompanied by an array of interesting sounds. Ruben Losada follows with The Beyond, taking a more direct route to the floor with a full-on chugging bass and strong kick drum combo. Seriously rhythmic percussion play dominates as industrialised sounds run free. Red Alert from Missperception takes a tougher approach with a classic banging kick drum and heavily reverbed, shuffling hats and percussions. The mutated acid style synth is joined by gnarly vocals which make for a real presence on the floors. Icka Naraca&rsquo;s Acid Brain continues the acid theme with a more upfront 303 sound that transcends the groove effortlessly. Superb, punchy kicks and bright crispy hats deliver a pacey rhythm complete with iconic snares for that authentic touch. Technotemple from Djonah Laforge settles us into the deeper side of Techno with a simply outstanding construction made up of chunky beats and dark vocal snippets. Classic style chord stabs intrigue, giving the track a lot of character and making it a definite dancefloor destroyer. Adam Carling&rsquo;s Sweet Bells gives off a solid arena vibe with those monstrous kick drums creating a powerful vibe. Filtered synths and warped chords stand out with ease which will definitely grab the attention of the crowd. Such a massive tune here that will not go unnoticed. Waffensupermarkt is up next with Soily and, as you&rsquo;d expect, he knocks it out of the park with a tight Techno joint. Deep, dark and moody, the track draws you in with its hypnotic allure. Solid drums stack up alongside grizzly basses and intricate melodics. An epic slice that will not disappoint. Patrick Kuessner&rsquo;s Guten Morgen (Was Seventeen a Decade Ago Rework) rounds up this hugely impressive collection, and does it in style with a brilliantly constructed cut. Warm, analogue goodness oozes out of the track, creating a mesmerizingly exotic flavour that will easily translate to the floors. A web of delicate FX and percussions combine for a steady rhythmic flow as deep basses resonate on the low end. Excellent stuff, not to be missed.
