I discovered Frankie Knuckles through his music, one that was, gentle, lush with a subdued, understated power that rocked many a dancefloor.
I had the privilege to hear him once in the heyday of his legendary residency at Sound Factory Bar in New York. I was submerged, sonically and emotionally by the beauty of the music I heard that night. I remember very clearly saying to myself that this would be impossible to ever equal.
That was 20 years ago, and I never got to hear this magic combination again.

I got to meet Frankie a few times, and he was always like his music, gentle, humble,   yet naturally imposing

I've put together here some of my favorite music from him. So that his legacy can keep on inspiring other people.

Rest in peace, Frankie, may your music keep on moving people eternally

Solid Steel (26th September) Berlin duo Kim Brown are the guests in Hour 1, having released music on Freerange, Permanent Vacation, Just Another Beat and a recent 12" on Needwant Recordings. As they say "We did something a bit different, not quite the regular club mix. Well suited for rainy autumn days." It's a mellow start with music from Porn Sword Tobacco and Hauscka on City Slang, but soon hits a groove with tracks from Kiasmos,  Grandbrothers and Jouem, before closing with The Notwist.

We here at 101 Apparel have been huge fans of Nightmares On Wax since the early sounds of “Smokers Delight” to our favorite “Caraboot Soul”. Its an honor to present this exclusive design collaboration with DJ E.A.S.E. of Nightmares On Wax. 

Nightmares on Wax is DJ and musician George Evelyn, also known as DJ EASE (Experimental Sample Expert), from Leeds, UK. The musical style is a combination of electronic sounds and hip hop beats, often regarded as "Chill Out". Nightmares on Wax's music is released on Warp Records. Evelyn got his start in the music industry through an interest in hip hop and on joining a local breakdancing crew, he met Kevin Harper and together they released their first album in 1991, a techno-edged record entitled A Word Of Science: The First And Final Chapter.

Evelyn went on to run The Headz Club in Leeds, and started his own record label, Poverty records. The next Nightmares on Wax release was not until Smoker's Delight in 1995, by which time Harper had left to pursue a career in DJing, reducing the band to a solo project. Evelyn began to record more of his trademark chill-out tracks, and brought in a variety of musicians and vocalists, giving the music a greater variety as well as allowing him to take the band out on tour.

In 2000, Evelyn assisted in the comeback of hip hop pioneers De La Soul, when they appeared on the EP The Sound of N.O.W.. Although De La Soul have maintained a steady, loyal and strong fanbase since the beginning of their career some have argued that Evelyn's EP helped push them back into the public eye.

The Monitor Guest Mix is finally back. This mix should have dropped well over a month ago but we've had trouble with the upload and those pesky soundcloud copyright scanners at upload. This week we bring you Freak, a UK based producer from Brighton who's recently released on Plush and Dew Recordings. 

"My name is Cristiano Silva known as Freak in the music world. I started making music when I was 14 years old, was really into my hip hop so that's what I started producing. Once I was 17 I started going to loads of raves underage and fell in love with the bass music scene from DNB to house. 

I have so many different influences its hard to pin point a main one, as soon as I wake up I search for new music and a lot of the time when I find a banger I think to myself I'd love to make a tune like that. My favourite producers are probably Huxley, Josh Butler, My Nu Leng and Trikk; there are so many more which I love but they are the main ones that are doing bits in their style of music. I have load of projects coming out in January with a big release at the end of Jan with a couple remixed tracks from some really talented up and coming artists. I also have a couple free tracks ill be giving away at the beginning of the month. 

My latest track is Shake It which is signed to plush sound, a sister label to DEW which is an american label. Have received alot of positive feedback and support from this one."
