Introducing a fresh face to the Darker Than Wax sonic universe - Singapore’s own Bongomann. One of the most exciting new selectors to emerge from the label’s hometown, his first foray into production encapsulates the eclectic and optimistic energy he brings to the decks. The aptly titled Smiles EP explores diverse rhythms and influences across its five cuts, from the outernational rave sounds melding together on ‘CHIPS’ and the titular track, the laidback Rhodes-driven soul of ‘Thanks’, to the jumpy garage weirdness of ‘Mongo’. Also featuring on the EP is fellow Singaporean up-and-comer Halal Sol, gracing ‘Deeperluv (Get It)’ with his signature style that channels the vibe of 4x4 legends like Tuff Jam and Todd Edwards.

This collection of tracks reflects the bubbling energy present in the current Singapore scene, and at the same time glimmers with shades of Melbourne soul - the city that gave the artist much of his education in underground music. Built for the club but revealing its depth on closer listening, Smiles aims to invoke the purest feelings of joy that we seek on the dancefloor.
