M.C. Records is proud to announce the release of Christmas Blues Medley by the Oilman, Big Jack Johnson. Recorded live in 1999, Big Jack gives a bluesy instrumental take on Jingle Bells and Santa Claus is Coming To Town. It will be available on all digital services to buy and stream starting November 26. 

M.C. Records’ President, Mark Carpentieri reflects on Big Jack, Well, Big Jack could be very serious in his writing like “We Got To Stop This Killin’” and “Crack Headed Women.” He also had a wonderful, playful nature and that is reflected in this song. You can also hear he was a bad-ass guitarist.”

Big Jack Johnson (1940-2011) lived in Clarksdale Mississippi for most of his adult life. He recorded four albums for M.C. Records from 1996-2002, mostly with his Pennsylvania band The Oilers, and he received many W.C. Handy nominations for his output. His release, “The Memphis Barbecue Sessions” with Kim Wilson won a W. C. Handy Award in 2003, and he earned several Living Blues Awards. Big Jack Johnson appeared in the 1992 film “Deep Blues” and the locally produced 1991 video “Juke Joint Saturday Night.” Big Jack Johnson is also part of the Mississippi Blues Trail. 

Big Jack first came to prominence as a member of the Jelly Roll Kings and they released their first album in 1979.

Recorded in 2000, this is from Clarksdale Mississippi Bluesman's Big Jack Johnson's posthumous release "Stripped Down in Memphis." A special guest on this track on harmonica master is the late Chicago Bluesman Wild Child Butler. 

The song is part of the 9-track record "Stripped Down In Memphis" being released on May 20 on M.C. Records.

M.C. Records presents Guy Davis' long-awaited follow-up album to his two previously Grammy-nominated recordings is finally here! In 1991, Mark Carpentieri wanted to record his band Somethin’ Blue but like many musicians, he didn’t have the money. He ended up making a deal with the studio owner. He would dump a van full of construction garbage for a night's worth of recording. Through simple barter, M.C. Records was formed. In 1996, Mark signed Mississippi bluesman Big Jack Johnson and released his music throughout the world. Since then, the industry has taken notice. 

The label has been nominated for 8 Grammy Awards and won or been nominated for over 30 Blues Music Awards. In 2006, M.C. Records received The Blues Foundation Blues Label of the Year Award.
