For our 23rd Podcast, we welcome Mark Slee who made his label debut with a gorgeous take on Beije's ‘Azimuth’. The US artist and Manjumasi label boss (alongside Atish) has a nearly two-decade long career in the electronic underground. His productions have found a home on Cityfox, Seven Villas and Tenampa Recordings, while he regularly plays San Francisco’s top venues in support of international talents like Danny Tenaglia, Danny Howells, Guy Gerber, Lee Burridge and Stimming. Hailing from San Francisco, Mark Slee is known to wear many creative hats. But two of his all-time favorite fashions are that of DJ and producer. Since co-founding House-Heads in 2008, a collective combining forward-thinking music with a quirky underground vibe, he has gone on to join the Listed Bookings roster and host the monthly mix show Heron Sound on Proton Radio. Most recently he has formed Manjumasi Music, a label collaboration with long-time partner in crime Atish.

Over the course of an obsession with dance music now more than 15 years strong, Slee has evolved a style of deep house that reflects a unique personality, balancing intricate grooves, dreamy textures, and playful whimsical bounce. Blending his technical side with intuition and introspection, he takes an approach that tickles both mind and soul.

Slee's sets have taken him far and wide, playing for audiences from Cape Town to Playa del Carmen, from Robot Heart to the Cityfox series in NYC. On the home front, his penchant for diverse and well-crafted warmup sets sees him regularly playing SF's top clubs, supporting DJs like Danny Tenaglia, Danny Howells, Lee Burridge, Matthew Dear, Guy Gerber, Matthew Dekay, Vincenzo, Andre Lodemann, Stimming, Extrawelt and Hector.

Rounding things out are his original productions and remixes, released on Manjumasi, Cityfox, Seven Villas, Magician On Duty, Lost Diaries, Proton Music, Loöq Records, Tenampa, and Submarine Vibes.

Fully committed to digging the troves of modern dance music, Slee aims to uncover releases that stand out. His monthly mix show on Proton Radio showcases his discoveries, with over 100 mixes presented in the past decade. In 2016, Slee joined forces with musical partner Atish to form the label Manjumasi. Debuting with his own Nocturne Belle EP, Manjumasi celebrates quirky dance music that explores new territory without forgetting the dance floor. Beyond Manjumasi, Slee's original productions and remixes have been released on such imprints as Cityfox, Seven Villas, Kindisch, Everything Will Be OK, Sound Avenue, Lost Diaries, Cosmic Society, Magician On Duty, Nugget, Where the Heart Is, Proton Music, and more. In addition to regular appearances on his San Francisco home turf, Slee's style has earned him DJ sets in notable locales, such as Kater Blau and Sisyphos in Berlin, Cityfox in New York, and Robot Heart.

Since 2016 Slee has also been developing immersive, spatial audio-visual production tools for systems of up to 32 channels via Envelop. Notable live performances with Envelop include MUTEK.SF and FORM Arcosanti.
