For September, we take a departure away from June+August's emo/sensitive side of house music and move towards a spacier, darker, and more driving sound. It's a sound that's been making its way into my gigs a bit more these last couple months, so it's nice to pull them into a mix.

While assembling mix these last few weeks and thinking about the direction I wanted it go, I noticed that elderflower had been popping up in various points in my life. Elderflower is one of my favorite words...it's oxymoronic with the sophistication and experience of an elder contrasted by the youth of a flower in bloom. The taste itself is worth mentioning, which is delicate and sweet in nature…I tried to capture all these things in this mix, sophistication, spirit, delicacy, and sweetness, and I hope that came through. Hope you like it.

Atish mixes the 3rd edition of our Foxcast series. 

"I've respected, followed, and been inspired by the Cityfox crew for a few years now, so it was a real treat to put together Foxcast #3 for them. While I think a majority of my listeners know me for my pretty, lush, and sensitive approach to house music, I was excited to divert from that sound and assemble a collection of tunes that represent my interpretation of the Cityfox sound: dark, trippy, melancholic, at times driving, at times beautiful. Hopefully those sounds came through in this mix, and I hope you like it."

Foxcast 3: Atish (January 2014)

This month, we explore the concept of anicca, the Buddhist word for impermanence or change. The mix weaves through sounds that are bombastic vs modest, dark vs light, groovy vs trippy, haunting vs heavenly, and so on...My approach to DJing is to keep sounds and feelings in a constant state of flux, never getting stuck in a single place. I believe a well-crafted mix is a metaphor for life: anicca, anicca...constantly changing, changing...

The Room

𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐄𝐑𝐄: Diego Galloso, Noam Garcia - The Room [Tibetania Rituals]

Sonic Safari embarks on a magic carpet ride for its 8th release with "Aladdin Tales", a stunning collaboration between BiGz & Soire.

The duo conjure an Arabian-inspired organic house odyssey, weaving percussive grooves with hypnotic melodies and glistening desert atmospheres. Ancient flutes, resonant hand drums, and subtle oud-like strings drift through the mix, evoking the feeling of wandering through bustling souks and starlit dunes.

On remix duties, the enigmatic Kanaa Knight returns to Sonic Safari with a spellbinding reinterpretation. He not only reshapes the original into a mystical gem, but also adds Arabian vocal lines, as if guiding listeners into the depths of Aladdin's cave.

"Aladdin Tales" is a sonic adventure through time and sand, a must-have for lovers of ethno, organic, and deep melodic house.

Mark Slee - Dwell: The Rabbit Hole [August 2015]

Playdate New York's Terron Darby has been an incredible force behind the scenes, in the studio, and on the decks for nearly two decades. Darby has designed professional high end studios for an esteemed list of performers and organizations that include everything from Moby to Vice Media, HBO, and NASA among others. He is also one of the original Avid instructors for their education department and has also taught aspiring musicians of all flavors at Full Sail University. It's special to have someone who has contributed so much to the growth of other eager musicians take the reign themselves. Currently, Darby has set in motion a mysterious new vinyl imprint that's a unique ode to the relationship between music and art. This label will reflect how layer after layer, Darby's music constructs a warm, intelligent vibe filled with rich-brimming strings and beautiful swelling bass lines that articulate what creating and spinning deeper shades of house music is all about. SoundPark is happy to welcome back Terron Darby as he returns for his sophomore take.

SPOTLIGHT: Saultloom

We proudly present the first Mala Mix ahead of our 2 day open air event in Hvar, Croatia this september. Currently residing in Berlin, the French artist Sooma has had an extensive touring schedule over recent years. Gracing the decks with her dynamic afro house selections across the globe and in her home city at the world famous Watergate. She still found time to create many beautiful sounds, and her collaborations with David Mayer have found homes with acclaimed labels like Connected Frontline and Ouie.

Mala Mix 01: Sooma

@lola-villa-musica is a producer and DJ from Colombia. Her travels have brought her closer to her roots, taking her audiences on a sonic exploration of the American and African continent through a digital lens. 

In terms of sound, Lola talks about Magic Realism––a mixture of cosmic elements, traditional sounds and raw textures. When playing, Lola invokes fire, wind, water and earth, the smells of the Amazon rainforest mixed with thick, nasty and,utterly sexy 80s-inspired bass lines and synths. 
By adding live and acoustic elements to her performances, she sets the tone for engaging and uplifting sets. 
She’s a vivid advocate for an inclusive industry and a safe dance floor, putting together workshops for aspiring female and non-binary DJs and musical meet-ups in cities such as: Tunis, Lagos, Amsterdam, and Washington D.C. 
Her philosophy: dance music needs disruption, it needs poetry, it needs more people who cannot afford it. Dance needs more people of color, it needs more riot girls, and kranky queers. 
Lola is currently based in Washington D.C.

For March, we explore what I like to call the richer side of deep house. I offer deep sub-bass lows complemented by warm spacey highs, lush synth sweeps, sensual vocal hooks, and a prog-influenced resolution. Progressive house has been entering my consciousness these last few months in various manifestations. These last few years, I admittedly thought "prog" was a dirty word, but as of late I've been finding music that holds on to the melodic beauty of prog, injects deep house grooves, yet still maneuvers away from the cheese the genre has been branded...all of which I think you'll hear in the 2nd half of this mix.

Intricate grooves, dreamy textures, playful whimsical bounce. Over the course of an electronic music obsession more than 20 years strong, Mark Slee has evolved a deep musical style that reflects a unique personality, blending intuition and introspection with a methodical approach to production and curation.

Fully committed to digging the troves of modern dance music, Slee aims to uncover releases that stand out. His monthly mix show on Proton Radio showcases his discoveries, with over 100 mixes presented in the past decade. In 2016, Slee joined forces with musical partner Atish to form the label Manjumasi. Debuting with his own Nocturne Belle EP, Manjumasi celebrates quirky dance music that explores new territory without forgetting the dance floor. Beyond Manjumasi, Slee's original productions and remixes have been released on such imprints as Cityfox, Seven Villas, Kindisch, Everything Will Be OK, Sound Avenue, Lost Diaries, Cosmic Society, Magician On Duty, Nugget, Where the Heart Is, Proton Music, and more. In addition to regular appearances on his San Francisco home turf, Slee's style has earned him DJ sets in notable locales, such as Kater Blau and Sisyphos in Berlin, Cityfox in New York, and Robot Heart.

Since 2016 Slee has also been developing immersive, spatial audio-visual production tools for systems of up to 32 channels via Envelop. Notable live performances with Envelop include MUTEK.SF and FORM Arcosanti.
