dynamic and also relaxing, the Perfect Balance

I'm happy to finally release my first extended set with you, recorded at StereoBar in Montreal. StereoBar is a club that's quickly jumped onto my shortlist of favorite venues in the world. Beyond the nailing the club fundamentals (sound system, layout, lighting, staff), they feature the "All Night" series where one DJ plays as opener, headliner, and closer. I love this format since it gives me the opportunity to build the energy from scratch and take the night in any direction without constraints.

But more importantly, I get to play for one of the most enthusiastic, supportive crowds that I've ever encountered. The energy from this night was the strongest I've felt in quite some time, certainly my best gig of the last year. Almost everything I threw out there worked, which actually makes me think that I might not have worked hard enough. There are many more sonic landscapes I'd love to explore, so hopefully I can come back again soon and we can take another journey in that special room...

The first hour is made up of ambient music I played for the yoga and sound healing meditation session before the dance floor gave way to the dancers.  It was such a beautiful day there on the shoreline over looking San Francisco Bay.  I feel this mix really captures the vibes we conjured up that day.

The Palomaesque is a Mezcal-based cocktail. Mezcal is not simply an alcoholic beverage among many others, Mezcal is Mexico’s spirit and endowed with nearly magical powers. As consuming Meczal is a social act, so is listening to Tara Brooks’ hypnotizing sets.  

Whether playing at an intimate club, a packed festival or a magical sunrise deep in the Playa, Tara Brooks music envelopes the crowd. 

What started as a hobby in Houston’s rave scene of the 90s developed to an impressive career. Tara’s bookings have taken her all over. She is a resident at Desert Hearts, a festival in Southern California. Tara also graced the decks of Citifox LA, the BPM Festival, the famous Robot Heart bus at Burning Man. In her Hometown Los Angeles, she is a resident at Subtract Music and every so often, Tara heads to international festival such as the Rainbow Serpent Festival in Australia most recently. 

The latest studio work includes releases and mixes on the likes of Akbal Music​, Kindisch​, Einmusika Recordings​, Exotic Refreshment​, Balance Series​,  John Digweed​'s Transitions as well as Deep House Amsterdam​ and Electronic Groove​.  

It was one of her early Robot Heart sets when Tara worked her magic on us. In her Palomaesque interpretation she went groovier and more soulful than usual, always featuring that unique Tara touch: deep driving grooves, hypnotic rhythms and haunting melodies. What a treat!

Over the course of an electronic music obsession more than 20 years strong, Mark Slee has evolved a deep musical style that reflects a unique personality, blending intuition and introspection with a methodical approach to production and curation.

Fully committed to digging the troves of modern dance music, Slee aims to uncover releases that stand out. His monthly mix show on Proton Radio showcases his discoveries, with over 100 mixes presented in the past decade. In 2016, Slee joined forces with musical partner Atish to form the label Manjumasi. Debuting with his own Nocturne Belle EP, Manjumasi celebrates quirky dance music that explores new territory without forgetting the dance floor. Beyond Manjumasi, Slee's original productions and remixes have been released on such imprints as Cityfox, Seven Villas, Kindisch, Everything Will Be OK, Sound Avenue, Lost Diaries, Cosmic Society, Magician On Duty, Nugget, Where the Heart Is, Proton Music, and more.
