In the summer for 2012 we thought it would be cool to introduce Thelonious Martin to Tree.  They met up at SoundScape, where Thelonious was regularly setting up shop and crafting music.  The two kick it off immediately and "More Than You Know" was the result.  Although we've released a lot of music with Tree and Thelonious respectively, for some reason or another, this just never came out.  

We want to release it now as a thank you to everyone that's been listening & supporting us the last few years.  Please enjoy, and look forward to great new music throughout 2014.

I Wish I Never Found You (ft Jurrivh)

On Nothing IS Something, the two come together, once more, to deliver an album packed with some of their best bars to date. Pay special attention to “Lucifer Callin” and “Cognac and Beer”. 

Their latest work displays the pair’s versatility and lyrical depth. Over the album, Tree and Vic provide ten consecutive bar-heavy, introspective, and exactic hip hop tracks. Sometimes playful, sometimes hard-hitting and precise, the duo master each unique vibe. Throughout,  though the album’s sound is very current, there's more than a note of reminiscent hip hip for Chicago rap purists.

NOTHING IS SOMETHING

Lucifer's Callin (Ft. Chris Crack)

Since the acclaimed mixtapes Sunday School and Sunday School II came out in 2012 and 2013 respectively and the EP Goat that came out in 2018, Tremaine Johnson, better known as Tree hasn’t released much music to long waiting fans.

His unique style and sound, Soul Trap, which combines Tree’s own take on soul music with modern day hip hop, is back in full force with the new release of Nothing is Something in collaboration with fellow Chicago native Vic Spencer.

The album consists of 10 songs, which runs just under half an hour but all the elements of the distinctive growl from Tree is there, reminiscent of the wisdom and flairs of soul he delivered in his Sunday School mixtapes. It’s a tough and gritty mood that Tree creates, with positive old-school twists, an underlying head-bumping bassline and clever lyrical bars littered with a few Gospel influences.

The album is unique and refreshing, a good change to the monotonous and over-flashy rap in today’s day and age.
