Who'll bring the dead to life,
The grave's dark prison burst?
Why, He that on the dead
Conferred their life at first.

'Tis strange that fleeting souls
Again today should wake,
But no less strange that here
They once their sojourn make.

Behold the human form
With strength and skill bedight,
Endowed with mind and will,
With hearing, speech and sight.

'Tis God's o'errulling power
Has caused with wondrous care
These mortal frames to grow
Of water, earth and air.

Then cannot God preserve
Alive the soul He gave,
And bear it safely through
The crisis of the grave?

After working on this selection of songs for six and a half years, I'm incredibly excited and grateful to be able to share them with you.  This album reflects a significant growth for me, as a singer and songwriter.  Combining my lyrics with those of my teachers, and drawing on diverse musical genres from Jazz, Blues and Hard Rock, to Arabic, Indian, Turkish and East African music, I have pushed myself way out of my comfort zone into unfamiliar genres and completely new territory as an artist.  I hope you enjoy listening to them even more than I did composing them, arranging them, and recording them.

Until 2016, revenue generated will be directed specifically to their current project in the Monze region of Zambia. This project hopes to reach 42,000 people with access to safe water, and over 40,000 people with access to improved sanitation and hygiene education. WATER

15 - Supplication For Rain (WATER, rel. 2015)

Khawwat ibn Jubayr, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him), once came across a group of women who he took an interest in.

Against his better judgment, he decided to put on his best clothes and engage them.

Until the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him) found him. The Prophet greeted Khawwat and said, "O Father of Abdullah, what caused you to sit with these women?" 

Khawwat panicked. He didn't know what to say. 

So he replied with, "O Messenger of Allah, my camel ran away. I was trying to figure out where it went. So I was asking these women if they've seen it."

How did the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) respond to Khawwat? Tune in to hear the story as narrated by Khawwat himself. 

Episode 3 • The Runaway Camel

The Prophet ﷺ would sometimes lean on the stump of an old palm tree while giving sermons in his mosque in Madina. His companions noticed this and decided to build a pulpit for him to use instead.

The first time he used the new pulpit, his companions heard sounds coming from the stump of the old palm tree. Tune in to hear what the Prophet ﷺ did next.

Stress Management from an Islamic Perspective with Dr. Rania Awaad

A bedouin man once walked into the most of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and began urinating. The companions, who were there with the Prophet, were infuriated and went to stop him. But the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed them to let him finish. And then he proceeded to correct the bedouin man in the the most gentle way.

This week, Shaykh Ishtiaq discusses the nature of miserliness and its effect on the heart. In this lesson you will learn:
- Wantonness its forms and its causes
- the effect of wantonness on the spiritual heart
- symptoms and treatment

On Wantonness

A man came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him) and said: “O Messenger of God, sometimes I will take a sheep and I intend to slaughter it, but then I have mercy over it." 

The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) replied, “And even the sheep, when you grant it mercy, then God the Majestic and Exalted gives you mercy!” 

We live in a world where animals are routinely mistreated to fuel our insatiable appetites. How can you strike a balance between eating meat and being merciful to animals? Tune in to find out.

Episode 10 · The Sheep

A young Companion rode by horseback for nine days to ask the Prophet ﷺ two questions: 'What are God's signs in those He wants [to bring close], and those that He does not want?' 

This Khutba focuses on the Prophet's answer and the importance of seeking to become beloved to God the Sublime and Exalted.

Friday Sermon: "Honoring Women: Reviving a Noble Sunnah."

The Friday Sermon delivered on March 15th, 2013 at the University of Toronto.

The path to God can be daunting unless a person keeps themselves in good company. The Prophet Muhammad (God's peace and mercy be upon him) said, "A person is upon the religious [state] of their close friend, so choose your close friends carefully." This sermon discusses the centrality of good company (suhba) in one's setting out towards God.

The Muslim Chaplaincy at the University of Toronto engages Muslim youth by providing an inclusive space for them to foster a meaningful Muslim identity, enriched and supported by quality educational and counseling services.

Our vision for a Muslim chaplaincy is to have an organization that facilitates quality educational, social, and spiritual services to support Muslim youth on a campus setting.

We envision that a Muslim chaplaincy will have a very positive impact on the course of Islamic leadership in North America. By having access to a wave of committed, well educated, balanced, nurturing, and culturally relevant role models, young Muslims will no longer feel at a loss when they face challenges of faith and identity. Rather, the chaplaincy will be a presence that inspires confidence and healthy spiritual development in Muslim youth.
