Me Neither are lucky enough to have overcome their addictions.  They gradually build up a force of dogs to keep their temptations at bay, then realised if they let the dogs go, they would devour the evil influences and they would be liberated.  A moral thought experiment if you will.

So, you start writing Northern Ireland songs.  You buy tickets to see Van Morrison.  You take your notebook to write amazing song ideas.  You don't really have any.  You write this song anyway.  Was a really good concert though.
