Hello Deep Souls,
 
I have curated this soulful melancholic set bursting with emotions, which I have been feeling lately. In fact, this set emerged during my quarantine period with my precious family, when I had ample time to pause and reflect.

Deep melancholic sounds serve a purpose; they are a reminder of our work to overcome our past and present hardships. In the context of music, artists choose to beautify and express profound emotions in a creative fashion. When the pain resides, music lovers can stand back and reminisce over their conquered despairs, accept their memories gracefully and even dance to them, too!

Hope you enjoy this journey as much as I have enjoyed letting go.

Playing back-to-back with another DJ is a skill few people have. And we're not talking one-upping the other Dj with tunes they can't follow, we're talking about Djs that feed off each other’s tunes, energy and vibe to create a hands up, heads down affair. Jixo and Danz have made a career out of it, as the two Daniels (Jahed and Azar) work in tandem dropping everything from sunset deep house to peak time techno.

They've had the pleasure of sharing the decks for DJ heavyweights like Solomun, Black Coffee, Adriatique, Tale of Us, Marco Carola, Jamie Jones, Sven Vath, Luciano, Ame, Carl Cox, Nina Kravitz, Maceo Plex, Bedouin, Adam Beyer and Dixon. Regularly playing to thousands on the fabled Soho terrace or the Dark underground club every weekend, they’ve also played underground bastions of cool back in Beirut, their home city, including The Basement, Ahm, The Grand Factory, Uberhaus, The Garten, Five Island Festival and converted bomb-shelter club, BO18.

Jixo (Daniel Jahed) and Danz (Daniel Azar) have been child hood friends since school, with the tight-knit bond continuing into their first pub, bar and club gigs. Amazingly considering their packed DJ schedule, the DJ duo both work full time in Dubai’s thriving media industry. It hasn’t stopped them from taking international bookings, however, with Jixo & Danz having worked dancefloors as far-flung as Ibiza, Croatia, Malaysia and Egypt.

Musically, they’ve always positioned themselves at the deeper, groovier end of the house spectrum known for their trademark super-smooth sets, but are equally as comfortable taking it up a notch and dropping a tech-house and techno masterclass when needed. And with their back-to-back energy and peerless selection guaranteed at every gig, Jixo and Danz are proving that two heads (and four hands) is better than one.

FREQ OF THE WEEK! Born in Kuwait, Tamara's journey began with the flute at the age of 8. Over time her love of sound pushed her towards learning trumpet, bass guitar, and eventually mixing. In 2018 she joined forces with her soul sister Dali to create the DJ duo group D&Tonic. That year she added the soundtrack to the Bottega Veneta launch collection in Kuwait and other local events. In 2019, D&Tonic played their first regional show at Dawaran. The last two years were spent participating in global live stream events. At the end of 2021, she performed at both XP and a small stage at Mdlbeast in Riyadh. She created her first sound installation piece as part of the Makeshift48 Fundraiser for Palestine in collaboration with Kuwaiti visual artist Yousif Al Zayed. She hopes to fuse her love for organic sound, dirty bass, and synth using live instruments in her future production projects.
