Continuum: a coherent whole characterized as a collection, sequence, or progression of values or elements varying by minute degrees.

As we keep weaving our Continuum's sonic tapestry, we have reached our next stop. For our third ritual, we welcome Daniel[i] who will thread a new musical chapter for us. Daniel is an artist we have been lucky to bump into at multiple events, and no wonder why. You can find him performing one of his live or DJ sets (which have taken him to iconic clubs and festivals like OHM, Tresor, C12, Perpendicular, La Valle Electrique…) or collaborating with super projects like Circle of Live. His releases can be found on iconic labels like Alpengluhen, 012, Danza Nativa, Lowless… and we are just naming a few! He also runs the beloved Whispering Signals labels and adjacent projects. And he even has time to curate for incredible festivals like La Nature (which we had the pleasure to visit this year). A busy bee!

We are delighted to have him join The Continuum with this real treat: a recorded set during a Brandwerk anniversary event. Daniel is a master of deep and introspective sounds in any shape or form: ambient, deep techno, dub… and for this one, he delivered a delight of dub goodness: expect a deep groove that would go down a treat as a warmup or at the afters. A heads-down mix drenched in echoes and delays.  A timeless selection by Daniel.

The Continuum: Daniel[i]

It’s a rare treat to share this recording from two of my favorite powerhouse selectors, Rotterdam’s Nelly and Oslo’s Marius Bø, who linked behind the decks at Nantes’ renowned Macadam last December for a night curated by club resident Bambi. The result, as expected, soars. Witness a three-hour cyclone of blistering, mind-shattering divinations capturing these two in their finest element, an uplifting of the psyche leaving no layer unturned. Thanks Nelly & Marius!

From the Morevi Records night at Horoom on June 13th comes this next instalment in the series. In a little over a decade, Separat has proved his mettle behind decks in his hometown Aachen, current base Cologne and other places like Gewölbe, Tresor or Openground. His sound has been instrumental in the local scene, a true underground talent and one of the heads behind Brandwerk. His press presence is fairly light, and a keen focus on his sound the most critical part of his work: groovy, immersive and playful. Fun through and through, with tones and charging rhythms which are designed for dancing the night away. Batumi-born, Berlin-based DJ/Producer Nicole has been instrumental in the evolution of Tbilisi’s role as axis for music and politics. Her earliest ventures in sonic creation saw her attend music school as a child and drum in a band, followed by a pivot into electronic music as half of teenage duo Body Thrills. It was 2018 that she truly emerged solo as a talent to watch on the Georgian scene, with a Boiler Room performance at Bassiani to celebrate its reopening following civilian protests against the government’s shutdown of cultural spaces. And with the threat of authoritarian ideology looming once more, her kind of energy is perhaps more important than ever. Nicole’s sound represents the best of what Georgia has to offer, a free and open enthusiasm for life where creativity reigns and anything is possible. Witty minimal with a generous measure of acid squelches and positive funk, these tunes are a mirror to the dancefloors she plays on. Her strength is in knowing her audience, which strings to pull and when, and that’s just as true of her other work, which now counts promotion duties at Tbilisi space Cafe Gallery and an EP on Marco Shuttle’s Eerie Records. This latest episode carries Tbilisi’s flame forward, a six-hour compilation that brings together her unique perspective as native to the city’s struggle, and her disparate musical references. Bassiani Podcast 275 is a knockout set from a top-notch local talent.

Really Great is one of those tracks I started a long long time ago... just fragments of the original idea now. A drum loop off my old mpc, a chopped vocal, a mood I couldn’t name. I sat on it like I do, just to forget about it, then pulled it out of the archive and mashed it back together with some fresh samples and a new trick or two.

It’s lo-fi house, techno-adjacent, whatever. Banging kick, tucked hats, and a vocal of sorts. Real loopy... maybe even meditative. Doesn’t rush anything. It takes its time getting where it’s going, but it gets there. Atmosphere more than anthem. A little cracked, a little submerged, but it is what it is.

Call it "lo-fi sample house" if you need to label it. I just call it Really Great.
