*** BIO : 

Dj Eks was born in Switzerland in 1975.
In 1980, and thanks to his older brother, he discovered the world of music, with groups like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Souxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus and others.
He has been passionate about the hip-hop culture since 1986.Towards the end of the eighties and the beginning of the nineties, his other brother often travelled to London where he took part in raves. 
He brought Dj Eks his first mixtape - breakbeat and drum'n'bass. Dj Eks went to his first rave in 1992 and then discovered the world of clubbing. In 1993, following a car accident, he dived into mixing and bought his first pair of Technics SL1200 turntables.
He started to play hardcore and gabber, then fell into acid techno and a range of other genres he still loved.
Nowadays, he mostly plays industrial techno, acid, acidcore, tribe, rave, techno and dark techno.

The main themes in the mix centre around wood percussions, thunderous synth pads and chopped Zulu vocals - creating a kind of dark atmospheric sound. It is anthem like, vivid, tribal, abstract in parts and yet specifically dramatic. 

The sound reminds me - in part - of techno in the late 90s where my dj'ing journey began at 'Teknival' and illegal rave party but also has elements of early dubstep which was deep and mystical.

Most of the tracks were new releases that came out of my recent trip to Durban as well as tracks recently sent to me via whatsapp.
 
The mix is a tribute to the artists of my label Gqom Oh!, their crews and friends. It also includes a handful of exclusive tracks from the next release "Gqom Oh! X crudo Volta Mixtape".

It is Rough, rugged and raw. It's riot music.

With Burning Man hot topic this week, and on our minds, as we're lucky enough to be going to home to Black Rock City again this year it seemed only fitting to have a Burning Man inspired podcast take the lead spot for the next 2 weeks while we are away getting Dusty. 

This beautiful dusty playground inspired journey is thanks to the lovely Girl Friday. Who is lucky enough to call two places home; Black Rock City, USA and Newcastle, Australia. Having had 8 journeys home now and well versed behind the decks it's something she is the perfect choice to musically capture. Very grateful Fi, Thanks for putting this together. LOVE xo

"It's been fun and challenging putting this mix together. And in the spirit of Burning Man, I got to the point where I just had to let it go....let it out and into the ether, perfectly imperfect.  

I reflected a lot during the programming as I tried to convey the sounds & internal journeys of days spent in the dust -  it's randomness, its inspirational rides to the portaloos that get you side tracked for hours, its tribal core and it's incredibly epic moments. To truly capture that mix, takes 7 days in the dust.  

The thing I love most about the music in Black Rock City is dancing on that big, white, soft,  dusty playground and the way a quality sound system scopes out the huge playa arena effortlessly.   Plenty of room to open your mind & spread your wings.

The intro and outro are field recordings taken on playa in 2005.

This set I played along my dear teacher and good friend Nicole Bongartz, whilst she was teaching her class „Crunchless Core“. The downbeat, tribal drum turned this core class into a very powerful one. Whether you use this to teach/practice a deep, focused, strengthening class or a smooth, relaxing flow it will surely serve both. It includes a solar plexus chakra (manipura chakra) meditation sound for the last 7min. 

This class is designed with approx. 75min, including savasana. Leaving enough time for opening/closing talk, breaks for demonstrations, silence for guided meditation etc.
