Formerly known as Inhalt Der Nacht, Berlin’s Christoph Faust has been tightening and repurposing his craft around the crucial idea that techno should revive that all-engulfing primitive pulse that powered its initial stages and bring the dance floors back to that deep, entrancing state of mind that makes the crowd mutate into one boiling mass of energy whose course nothing can alter. From droney meanders to hi-velocity breaks, via stretches of melodic uplift and murky, sense-awakening immersion, Faust knows how to steer into the deep waters of soul-healing introspection and beat-driven escapism.

Reclaim Your City 579 | Ketch (Tuscany)

Co-head of SYXT and Glukkon Records, Romania-born artist Ketch steps in the series with two hours of full-fledged big-room-oriented dynamics. Combining the dark and brute side of steely industrial music with that of more deep-minded electronics, halfway dub immersion and further left-field acid eccentricities, Ketch ploughs his own furrow aside from techno's main drag, somewhere at the junction of raw brutalism and tribal-inherited transcendence. Just like his own tracks, the Italy-based producer’s mixes lay down a complex, near-labyrinthine mindset, not quite choosing its side between hands-on floor destruction and eruptive mass communion. Hear hear, it’s the sound of your soul fanning out.

I chose to reflect this mix of hypnotic and deep with a little bit of break in my set because the mix affects me emotionally and I always find the mix of hypnotic and off beat / break sound at slower tempos exciting and deep. The way I reflect my emotions is directly linked to the choices I make in my set. The effect of my set reflecting a deep and emotional journey and seeing the effect it will create is one of the main things that connects me to this set.

Rote Sonne invites Thoms Traxx | Podcast 125

France’s proliferation of techno talent is hard to contest these days, but Mathys Lenne’s here in case you had any doubts. The DJ/producer also goes by The Scan, and makes up half of Classic Blue, pushing forward a steely vision of the genre that’s both shrewd and quick as a whippet. Alongside projects on HAYES, his beats have shown up too as vinyl EP on Blue Hour’s eponymous record label as well as a debut LP on Dutch powerhouse MORD (2023). It’s a hard hitting genus of techno that borrows from the layered and cognitive approach employed by forebears Efdemin and Float Records label boss TWR72. He’s been busy, and found a powerful voice he spends night after night bringing to dancefloors and headphones alike. For Bassiani Podcast 206, the francophone techno envoy weaves a complex mesh of warped kicks that doesn’t let up for a second, a building tension only someone with faculties as sharp as his could successfully maintain. If this is the first time you’ve heard his name you’d be wise to take note, with an ear like his, little can stop him.
