Hello, 

I’m pleased to give you Episode 5 of the Lowering The Tone podcast.

This time round I have a great Interview with Lee Rous, one half of the mighty Plump DJ’s, who kindly took some time out to travel down to sunny suburbia to shoot the breeze in my front room for a few hours (I must use the word ‘Interview’ loosely as it really is nothing more than a laid back chat between friends). Lee gives a humorous & honest account of his time in music. It’s refreshing and inspiring to hear producers of this calibre sharing their experiences and laying all to bare.

I will continue to bring you these intimate chats for as long as I can, and if you wish to contribute something to the show you can email me on Mark@loweringthetone.london.

On a slightly different note, I have been racking my brains as to how to float this podcast and also get some new equipment so I am able to give you a more professional show. This is what I have come up with;

Here you go my friends, something different from me….

This is not a promo mix and I’m not trying to generate work off the back of it, it’s simply a mid-tempo DJ mix.  I have been collecting tracks for a while that didn’t seem to fit anywhere in my sets, but that I really love, so I decided to put them into a mix in their own right… music with a late night, deep & sleazy electronic feel, full of atmosphere, with a splattering of dark funk thrown in. 

I’ve got plenty of brand new peak time releases coming shortly on my Lowering The Tone imprint, from Pook/ & Lola, Lee Coombs, Matt Goddard/Dopamine, Ben Coda, Carbon Kingdom and myself, but in the meantime welcome to the “Den Of Iniquity” :-)

Release notes:
The word ‘classic’ gets thrown around a lot these days, but in the case of ‘Lazer’ there is no debate. Originally released back in 2006 (Vinyl only) as the B-side of the duos ‘Divine’, a collaboration with legendary House vocalist Roland Clark, which at the time had a more commercial appeal, which went on to be a huge success. But for the real Tech-Funk/Breakbeat hardcore, Lazer’ was the reach for club weapon with it’s precision beats, grinding bass-line and a hook that would still be rattling around your head way after the haze and debauchery of the previous night had worn off. 

18yrs on year on, Mark (Meat Katie) & Simon (Elite Force) have had this underground gem re-mastered and is now available for the first time in digital form. I’m sure you will agree ‘Lazer’ has stood the test of time, and now a new generation of DJ’s, ravers & clubbers can have some new memories hearing this un-sung classic for the first time.

Steve is an interesting and intelligent character that I am sure you will warm to.

Following on from the success of Etticas seminal Close Your Eyes, which also featured outstanding remixes by Pook & Viclan, we felt it only fitting to do a part 2 package continuing on breaking down genre barriers and divisions within electronic music. 

Label boss, and head chef at Lowering Tone Meat Katie brings a rolling uptempo Tech-Funk interpretation that sees him returning to his breakbeat roots, leaning on a tough jacking beat, and a super-sub-bass underpinning all the elements from the original. Next up is a good friend of the label, Brazilian Techno powerhouse, Spuri, head honcho at Hotstage and regular contributor to Tronic, Sincopat and many more world class labels. Spuri supplies us with a heavy Old Skool warehouse remix, with a massive build up that then just locks you down into a frenzy, yet another stunning remix from a rising star of South Americas vibrant Techno scene. 

Finally we get to Davdcase, our man in Texas. In a short time Davdcase has established himself as a real player within the breakbeat scene, with his last single featured on the mighty 83 recordings, this remix shows an effortless display of bridging the gap between Breakbeat & Garage, and as with all the remixes on this package David also nods to the Techno elements from the original but twists them into his own style.

Im pleased to give you Episode 18 of the Lowering The Tone podcast. 

This time round I had the pleasure to sit down with Ant Wilson Aka 'Chicago Loop' and have an in-depth chat about starting your career again from scratch, life after the London Acid Techno scene and naming himself after a ring road in America.

As I have mentioned before these are not so much of an interview more of just a laid back conversation that veers off in all directions, thats is the charm though IMO, listening back to this one I think it will appeal to DJ’s who wish (and do) travel because Ant is a well seasoned DJ who has some great stories of his on the road experiences around the globe, I found his story petty inspiring I hope you do to.

As you should expect by now I explore many genres mix wise but keeping it Techy based. As promised in the show I will bring back the ‘Deeper Selection’ next episode.

Right, I didn’t plan on this Episode of Lowering The Tone being the Xmas show, Im just so late with it, that is just how it’s panned out :-) 

It's not a bad one even if I say so myself. 

This time round I have a very good friend of mine Kristian Townsend (Dubspeeka, Ways & Means, Akasha FX) over for a loose conversation, we ended up having a bit of a big night before, and I was really feeling it the day after, much to Kristian's amusement, as you will hear.

The conversation touches upon everything from Kristian’s upbringing  & living out a bus, to running a high influential record label, to the current success of his Dub Techno project Dubspeeka (along with Darren Beale from Kosheen).

I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Kris, I hope that comes across in this 2hr show.

Musicwise, I pretty much kick the sh*t out of it from start to finish :-)

Released Music on R&S, Kingsize, Bedrock, Yoshitoshi, Mo Wax, Toolroom, Global Underground, SAW recordings, to name but a few.

Remixed such artists as James Zabiela, D-Nox & Beckers, Deep Dish, Lee Coombs, Stephane K, Phil Kieran, U.N.K.L.E 

He has run (as a label manager/A+R & recording artist) the highly influential LOT49 & Whole 9 Yards (W9Y) imprints.

In June 2013 Mark started a Podcast series ‘Lowering The Tone’ which in 2016 morphed into a Progressive Techno Label.

He now records exclusively for Lowering The Tone and is currently working on his fourth artist album, he still hosts Lowering The Tone podcast & also co-hosts ‘Setting The Tone’ (Podcast) with Ben Coda.
