Like many kids did in the countryside then, the sandbox was where we played. The main difference of our box from others though, was that it was sure dug deep when made.

Buried to neck by my brother once, with my head exposed to breathe. Was surprised to find he departed somewhere, but I couldn’t turn to see.

Scared I yelled, come back here Luke, and couldn’t dig out my own. He soon returned with a hat for me, and camera to capture my pose.

With just a head in the photo then, he could let other people see. Proof of a truly bodiless brother, so long as they didn’t know me.

My brother years later dated a girl with hair that bushed up oddly. Then came the day when I first met her and she saw me with a body.

She said to me, you must be Clint, yes of course I replied. She looked away and toward my brother exclaiming, Luke you lied.

That was the end of this senseless tale as the girl went around. She told everyone this brother’s body was in fact underground.

Machine in the desert by itself. 
Instructions to find animals to attack.
Stops pace finding a young wolf.
Separated from the rest of the pack.

Program glitches this moment.
The machine feels caring begin.
Loving once an opponent.
Lifts the pup and caresses him. 

From all around behind the rocks.
Pack appears and rushes in.
Bites the head and the thing drops.
Ambush too cunning for it to envision.

Antenna broken lost connection.
For signal to move forward. 
Stuck in static position. 
Viewing just one vision of the world.

Charged full with power.
There’ll be years until it dies.
Wishing rain shower.
To cover circuits wet and fried.

Change of only clouds and sun.
Kept its mind inventive.
In this kind of prison.
Locked up with no directive.

A stormy dark night arrives.
Seeing and hearing.
Lightning blinding eyes.
Deafening by thundering.

Wind blows the machine over.
Landing face into the ground.
A black void of an exposure.
Only left to live with sound.

Death wish disobeyed.
Water leaks in deeply.
Every part that was made.
Is water proof completely.

The animal it came to care.
It hears not too far away.
Screaming into the night air.
Echoing throughout into decay.

The machine begins to cry too.
In unison they sing together.
Over what they can’t undo.
Back in time it’ll be never.

The very sad song is sung
At the same time every night
Far from being done.
So long the machine saw no sight.

Riding along three rotations.
Of it’s solar system’s star.
Machine ceased calculations.
Life source finally starved.

Last time the wolf calls.
Silent is the machine.
It has no cry left at all.
The very sad song just a dream.

Machine Cry

Banjo Projector

In a small pet shop over in Bucktown. 
With twenty-six dollars and a nickel to spend. 
Of thirty budgie birds dancing around. 
I chose one of them to be my new pet friend. 

The shop clerk grasped whom I picked.
A gentle handsome young male of yellow.
He didn’t bite at all as he was gripped.
Just nibbled at the finger of this fellow.

Put in a box with holes in it to breath.
On our way to where we’d stay.
Wondered what I’d maybe see him be.
Hoping most he will be happy and ready to play.

In his new space I named him Leeno.
He tweeted over and over non-stop.
There was something he wanted me to know.
He was missing his friends back at the pet shop.

Back to Bucktown and then back home.
Opened the box inside Leeno’s surprise.
Cleo appeared and his mind blown.
A bird friend like him the same small size.

Leeno sang a simple bird love song.
To Cleo playing around with a loose feather.
Inventing the melody as he went along.
Trying his very best to impress her.

Cleo at first didn’t know what to make of it.
But to Leeno’s song she kept listening.
She began to sing too after a minute.
And that quickly turned to kissing.

A beautiful way for us to begin.
A life with the three of us together.
Though I know beaks aren’t built to grin.
I’m certain to see us three happy forever.

Cabin in the forest.
Center of the state.
Summer weather warmest.
Friends celebrate.

Flames in a fire pit.
Someone made.
No one watching it.
Grass caught ablaze.
 
Mister Gonzales.
Burst in all panicked.
What the cause was.
Help damn it.

Yelling there’s fire.
Where there should be none.
Water is required.
Stop having fun.

Some went out the door.
Others stayed behind.
Sink water to pour.
Into a pot they did find.

Of us wearing shoes.
No sandal on each foot.
Stomped away where due.
Smothered to hot soot.

Water pressure.
From a hose to be found.
Out every ember.
Soaked wet and drown.

Then from the cabin.
Something to offer.
No gift from heaven.
Just a little pot of water.

Wondering what to do.
With something of this amount.
Took a moment or two.
Just to dump it out.

It could’ve been bad.
Luck be spoken.
A few more feet and.
Trees be smoking.
