She’s on the streets and she’s searching for crumbs
She begs on her knees till her fingers turn numb 
From the cold in the air as it bites at her skin and her shoes are worn through

Soot in her mouth and holes in her clothes
She has no home and no place to go
She drinks rain water like juice from a golden fruit

She’s a pity, just a creature
She’s a beauty, she’s a dreamer 
She’s a prayer, it goes deeper, a believer

Her world is in water, it’s not her home
She has a daughter, and she’s on her own
On the roads that have never been roamed

She pleads for him to slow himself down 
He works from the morning to sundown
She cries out with pleasure to bury the pain in her soul

He dims the lights in the street to be funny
They’re at it again for pockets of money
She cries in cold blood and wishes she’d never been born

He is married, she’s another,
He’s a drunkard, she’s a mother
She was weaker, but he beat her, a deceiver 

He was the predator, she was the prey
He took her childhood and he went away 
And she can’t love herself again
