Welcome to 238°West which is the deeper, darker corner of Media Blackout. A sub-label with big ideas. First up we bring you this massive collaboration between one of the most prominent prog house/producers – John Johnson - and Hungarian highly original Greyloop, is an incredibly exciting meeting of creative minds. The end result – Time Capsule (Vol. 1) flying high on a deep throbbing house backbone overlaid with hypnotic melody flourishes.

On remix duties are the creators of some of the freshest sounds in tech/prog house music in recent years, Columbian duo, Cut Knob. For their remix of Time Capsule, a teasing percussive intro leads into a monstrous, infectious, booming groove that is sure to cause chaos all summer long. Russia is also strongly represented here by the super-hot Spacebeat, who never fails to impress. His catchy and deep remixing style rides high on a rhythm that has the groove and swing factor turned up to the max.

Douze (@_douze) is Arnault Douze Esteve, a young French producer. First discovered by Kris Menace, he would later become the protégé of the German producer. Their collaboration led on to several tracks produced together on Kris's "Idiosyncrasies" first album followed by a handful of EPs. To this day, Kris and Douze continue to work together - with Douze appearing on Menace’s albums “Features” and forthcoming project “Sun, Moon & Stars” in collaboration with Simon Lord. Following this, Douze worked with another titan of the French house music scene, Alan Braxe, the results of which are still under lock and key in Braxe’s own production vault.

Douze - Zenith

It’s been a while since we’ve heard a track capture the endless summer vibe quite like this! Images of the sun kissed coast, Venice beach, Santa Monica pier and sunset drives down PCH run through our minds instantly when we hear “Out Of My Head” by Parisian producer Douze. And if you recognize those sultry vocals that’s because they come from Moodblanc’s Magnus who was featured on that killer Medsound track from two weeks ago.

The single is lifted from an EP by the same name that features an extended and radio edit version of the title track as well as another absolutely stellar original called “Zenith.” Everything about this track captures the essence and romance of those fleeting summer months. It’s a feeling that you can never really put into words, but always lingers long after the season ends much like this song that totally lives up to its lyrics.

It would be super obvious for me to remix Thriller for Halloween so I decided not to do that. Instead I wanted to remix a track for some reason Michael Jackson never performed live. I always thought that was weird because I bet this track would make all the fine ladies melt <span class="emoji-outer emoji-sizer"><span class="emoji-inner" style="background: url(chrome-extension://immhpnclomdloikkpcefncmfgjbkojmh/emoji-data/sheet_apple_64.png);background-position:45.833333333333336% 77.08333333333334%;background-size:4900%" data-codepoints="1f604"></span></span>. PYT aka Pretty Young Thing is what I decided to remix around and I really think you're going to like this one!
 
Call me crazy, but I always felt the original song was too fast, so I slowed it down 115bpm. I used the Sequential Drum Traks for the drums. The bassline is from an Oberheim SEM. Plenty of real instruments like my Yamaha upright piano and live percussion.

P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) (Funk LeBlanc Remix)

ICONYC head honcho John Johnson & Greyloop’s forever gets the remix treatment from Andre Sobota, Underground Ticket and David R Maddocks. ‘Forever’ is a modern house jam that pushes all the right buttons. The deep progressive house roller fuses synth chord stabs a pounding drums, clinical percussion and a pretty powerful lead line, perfect for those peak time moments.

First up we have Andre Sobota who gets us going by using rhythmic beeps and a mellow synth-stabs to create a driving rhythm before the atmospheric pads create a beautiful setting, which fires with all guns blazing to produce a club monster that growls. Combining the best of both worlds, he has come up with something unique and distinctive to make this release extra special while applying an extra dose of groove and warmth to this incredible tune. Andre’s mix stands for a fool proof and state-of-the-art piece of music, which will readily make you, take note and amaze in equal measures.

Next up we have non-other than Underground Ticket, famed for his high quality progressive house productions, whose interpretation sounds mature, effortless, and full of subtle nuance. Never one to be bound by any particular style or genre, this is them taking a deeper route. The combo delivers a bittersweet, quality fuelled, melancholic rework that still manages to get your toe tapping with each downbeat. 

Adding to our list of all-star remixers, we brought in English maestro David R Maddocks who knows a thing or two when it comes to mind blowing reworks, turning his mix into an irresistible track using the original elements with perfection. David layers more melodies and effects, whilst upping the flow with cleverly programmed tech percussion and his trademark FX elements, without destroying the essence of the original. His rework deserves to be branded ‘essential' in any sense of the word.
