Following their acclaimed début single ‘Glamourama’ which garnered high praise from the likes of BBC 6 music and Amazing Radio, London four piece Blindness unleash a fabulous new three track EP 'Last One Dies’ on 18th March.  Widely regarded as one of the most thrilling outfits currently performing on the capital’s gig circuit, this release captures the power and intensity of their live performances.  It combines the bands trademark swaggering visceral shoegaze guitar squall with edgy electronica and driving beats overlaid by the enticing dark sensual tones of singer Beth Rettig. The entire EP will be available on a recession busting “pay what you like” basis (including nothing!) via their Bandcamp  page which will be live on March 18th.

BLINDNESS - Last One Dies

Nicole Atkins is an American singer-songwriter from Asbury Park, New Jersey best known for her throaty vibrato and dark noirish pop leanings.  She has appeared in Rolling Stone magazine as an "Artist to watch" and has appeared several times on television shows like the Late Show with David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, and Later with Jools Holland. 

After spending a year touring as support for the Black Keys and the Avett Brothers she is currently putting the finishing touches on her new album "Slow Phaser" where she expands  on her ideas of dark psychedelia mixed with a country soul noir.  It was recorded in the winter of 2013 in Sweden with Neptune City's producer Tore Johansson 

As a teaser, Nicole is streaming a brand new track 'Red Rope,' which is among a number of songs on the album she has co-written with the legendary musician Jim Sclavunos (the Bad Seeds/Grinderman/The Cramps/Sonic Youth.)

Not every artist can boast adopting a musical pseudonym at the suggestion of somebody as distinguished and well respected as Elbow’s Guy Garvey. However, that’s exactly what happened to singer songwriter Katie Ware when she found herself at something of musical crossroads.After leaving behind her Southern roots and travelling in the direction of Manchester, following a request from former Smiths manager Joe Moss to join cult indie band Marion/Headway, Katie quickly settled into life up North.However, it was when the band decided to go their separate ways that Katie turned to her old friend Guy Garvey for advice: “I met up with him after Marion / Headway came to an end as I wanted to go it alone. Guy always used to call me “cockney sparrow” and he suggested that maybe I should call myself something different, maybe just ….Sparrow?

 I thought about it and eventually decided on Little Sparrow!”Katie aka ‘Little Sparrow’ is blessed with a beguiling voice of extraordinary beauty and has an innate ability to connect with her audience, so much so that she has attracted the attention of new music champions such as Simon Raymonde.

She’s currently working on songs for her début album, but to whet your appetite she is releasing a brand new song ‘ Sending The Message.’  To accompany the release there’s also a video, shot in The Lantern Theatre, Sheffield, in which the underlying message is - ‘in an age when technology allows us to send messages at any given time, are we actually connecting?’

Of the video, Katie says:

LITTLE SPARROW - Sending The Message

Lumin Bells are a Merseyside six piece consisting of Nico Hercules; vocals/guitars, Mick Dolan; acoustic/electric guitars, Danny Poole; Bass guitar, Austin Murphy; vocals/keyboards, Nick Henham; vocals/acoustic guitar and Colin Lamont; drums 

The band formed in traditional style after Nico found a creative collaborator in Mick Dolan through an ad placed in the music press. The duo immediately bonded over a mutual love of artists such as Brian Wilson, Nick Drake, Neil Young, Simon & Garfunkel, and The Byrds.
 
Their first release, the evocative 'Hold You Inside' attracted the attention of major label A&R representatives within hours of it going on line.  The song peaked at number three in the Music Robot UK blog chart and prompted BBC's new music champion Tom Robinson to describe the song as "a wonderfully wrought soundscape."  Not bad for a first release! 
On the back of this success the band now release their latest track 'Somehow the Same' which again demonstrates their ability to create evocative heartfelt soundscapes.  The track has echoes of the musical craftsmanship and wistful melancholia that fans of artists such as Fleet Foxes and Nick Drake will no doubt appreciate. 
The band are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches to their debut album 'The Hidden Room', scheduled for release later in the year.

LUMIN BELLS - Somehow The Same

It is perhaps ironic that for a band so in love with music the inspiration for Velvet Two Stripes arrived on Valentine’s day during a heated debate over the relative merits of BB King, Janis Joplin and The Ramones. Who was the greatest?

Unsurprisingly an agreement was never reached but the process did inspire sisters Sophie and Sarah and their best friend Franca to start a band. Their initial aim was merely to have fun and attract as many groupies as possible, but it soon became apparent this trio had a real musical chemistry.

The trio threw themselves into a period of intensive rehearsal, locking themselves away for months on end, intent on honing their craft. They emerged only when they felt ready to unleash their visceral, edgy rock n’ roll on to an unsuspecting world.A rough demo CD showcased the bands precocious ability and before long they’d began to generate a considerable buzz. Even after their first ever gig, it became clear, Velvet Two Stripes had the makings of a musical force to be reckoned with!

After conquering the relatively small local scene they crossed the border and were soon picking up committed followers in the Mecca of musical cool that is Berlin. They are now primed and ready to take the rest of Europe by storm.

VELVET TWO STRIPES - Hellhound

Big Wave are a 5 piece guitar pop band from Torquay. The band is made up of old friends Ella (vocals/guitar), Rikki (guitar), Matt (drums), Pete (bass) and Mel (keys).

 The group bonded in the local haunts of Torquay over a shared interest in pop music, alcohol and terrible dancing. In true sitcom style the band all live together and to the bemusement of their landlord this has resulted in the inevitable, regular living room ‘shouty’ rehearsals.

 Big Wave have had a busy 2012; they released EP ‘The Roots of Love Come Tumbling Down’ on Softpower Records and two Singles: ‘Dying on the Vine’ on Art is Hard Records and ‘Only You’ on Beautiful Strange Records. These releases created quite a buzz online with features on the 405 website, backing from Fake DIY and a rather glowing piece on Spinner’s website.

 Big Wave’s live credentials include the honour of being selected to play End of The Road festival alongside band favourites Patti Smith and Grizzly Bear. In addition Big Wave have supported acts such as Tender Trap, Metronomy and Evans the Death. Finally, the group from Torquay have a busy year ahead of them; having already appeared at ‘London Pop Fest’ and ‘Wales goes Pop’ they are set to play ‘Indietracks’ festival in the Summer. Big Wave have a single planned for Easter with a potential album lined up for Summer release. In addition, the group were invited to a prestigious BBC Introducing Master Class in April.

 Finally, Big Wave will release their next single ‘Goldmine’ on May 06th with Art Is Hard records. The single will be released on a limited run of golden, chrome cassettes. ‘Goldmine’ is Big Wave at their most poppy; the song features drawling, hooky guitars and a sing-along, splashy chorus embodying all the light, glitter and also some of the dark suggested by the song’s title.
