As our lives revolve around work and its demands on our waking hours, the time spent commuting to the office is the land of daydream for some, of dread and alienation for others. As seasons race pass during the limbo of transit – looking out the window as hours of our life we’ll never get back – what does our daily path tell us about who we are, and how we keep in touch with our humanity? Companion animated music video developed by Sierra Classic Sound, with help from artists in Brazil & Uruguay. (Lyrics inspired by an early-morning commute from Grand Central Terminal to Connecticut, the Metro-North Railroad traverses under Park Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side – exiting the tunnel in Harlem at 99th Street.)

It's time to “swipe right” on the dirty synth funk of “Gonna Miss You” by Sierra Classic Sound (the advance single from the MediaGroove label's "Isolation Compilation - Part 1"  - launching 23 October 2020).  It could be just the perfect, bittersweet song of the “ghosting” era of online dating and virtual relationships, where the velocity of starting and stopping love moves at hyperspeed. Featuring an epic vocal lead from Freedom Bremner,  the uncut soul sauce of JaQuita May on backgrounds, grinding dual Moog & electric bass throb by Joe McGinty & David Soule (respectively), and an infectious blend of live & digital drum + keys mix by Yusuke Yamamoto; “I originally wrote it about a long-time friend breakup,” said Kreth, “...but later, I realized it could very easily be about a past relationship. The hook: “Gonna Miss You / But Not That Much” felt like something Leonard Cohen would have dryly sang, but you could also relate the sentiment of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin’s classic 1969 pop hit: "Je t'aime… Moi non plus." ("I love you ... me neither.")

“To me, the crazy thing about this song is that I first recorded it a few years ago, but I was at a very happy place in my life then,” said singer Bremner.  “Ironically, I'm now in the middle of ending a divorce. And I couldn't relate to this song more than I do now. It is exactly how I feel. I also connect strongly with the lyrics about ‘letting go.’ Letting go of anger is crucial to being a whole happy person and moving on. It’s really everything - being able to remember certain things (so you don't make the same mistakes twice), but to let go of the anger and the pain so you can grow  - it's crucial.”

Check out the expansive “Magenta Fish (The Sea),” which introduces the lyrical wordplay of hip-hop poet Egypt English to a wider audience.  Featuring the radiant piano of Brittany Anjou and the acoustic bass pulse of Ben "Benny Cha Cha"  Rubin, the song began as a swimmy, four-track guitar loop and volume-swell demo tape by the late Daniel “Firm” Ramirez.  Diving into an electronic-brushed Afro-Cuban (Guaguancó) pattern by Kindbeats' drummer Andrew McAuley, the track has been re-imagined as a righteously pissed-off Mother Ocean talking back to mankind for their foibles and transgressions.  “The ocean has always been a deep part of my life, and to see what mankind is doing to the ocean is inexcusable,” said Kreth. “My late brother and I grew up together in LA walking to the beach, and he went on to become an oceanographer - where he saw first-hand (and told me the stories of) the impact of human activity on the seas. Both Daniel and my brother passed away from cancer since 2012, so Egypt’s passionate words - written from the character / POV of a deservedly indignant Sea (remember, we're all more than 60% water!) - are a both a heartfelt tribute to them and a warning to get our shit together.” Bonus instrumental versions include a Benny ChaCha mix and channel U’s aquatic “Jacques Cousteau” remix.
