On Tuesday, March 9, oral arguments were held at the Second Circuit Court of Appeals as the City of Troy tried to stop the Thevenin suit from moving to a juried trial. The Climate Change Superfund Act would require fossil fuel companies in NY  to pay a fee based on their individual percentage share of total greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere, and will generate $30 billion in ten years. National Grid is asking for a 20% increase in gas and a 15% increase in electric rates for its upstate customers. Besides the size of the increase, much of the rate increase will be used to support the company's continued build-up of fossil fuels. On Thursday August 15 at noon, Citizen Action, 350.org and numerous local climate groups will hold a protest outside of Agency Building 3 on the Empire State Plaza, where the Public Service Commission will be holding its monthly meeting.
