Medical Records releases the first full length LP in 5 years by LA’s Geneva Jacuzzi. To say Jacuzzi is a multifaceted artist would be an understatement. She is well known for her uncompromisingly obtuse synth-driven pop and one-of-a-kind performance art that is comprised of one time only spectacles and installations. Her works have been presented in famous art institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA and numerous other venues across the globe. She has developed a very focused cult following in the art AND music scenes. She was originally well known for her multitude of self-released home recordings but also released a full length Lamaze in 2010 on the Vinyl International to much acclaim. Not to mention her track The Sleep Room featured on The Minimal Wave Tapes Vol 2. Technophelia is the culmination of a hybrid of DIY and professional studio recordings (with the help of esteemed producer Chris Coady) that resulted in this exquisite album. Medical Records (again) in collaboration with Crispy Nuggets blog is proud to present a compilation/reissue of the UK underground duo Laugh Clown Laugh. Composed of Sam Findlay and Dominic O’Brien, Laugh Clown Laugh hailed from the northeast Somerset town of Frome (100 miles west of London). Though the band only had 1 actual released track (“Feel So Young” featured on a 1984 101International 2LP comp), the duo recorded many more tracks literally in their living room in the early 1980s.

MR-007 Guyer’s Connection
Guyer’s Connection were a Swiss duo that started making electronic music in 1982.  Tibor Csebits and Philippe Alioth were merely 14 and 15 years old and were armed with simply 2 synths, a drum machine, and a 4-track tape recorder.  They are best known for their highly-sought after self-produced and released album “Portrait” in 1983.  It is now considered a classic minimal synth pop masterpiece.  Several other members joined the band in 1984 and worked together for some time.  Philippe Alioth has been very active in the music business writing, producing, and running a Swiss studio as well as running a Swiss label (Sonic Content).  This extraordinary collection of tracks was discovered in a dark recess of Philippe’s achives of 4-track tapes in his studio.  The tapes were recorded from 1982 to 1984 but were rediscovered in 2005.  A portion of the songs were restored/remixed/remastered.  The German record label Kernkrach released the tracks in 2005 in a limited viny-only pressing of 330 copies.  This sought-after release has long been out of print.  Medical Records in collaboration with Philippe Alioth is proud to present another presentation of these glorious tracks.  Featuring 13 tracks (including several never before released and a few reworked versions of tracks released in 2005), this will appeal to all lovers of minimal synth, electro-pop, flexi-pop, and the like.  Standout tracks include the vocoder tinged “Discoqueen II”, the hyper-catchy “Ar Isch Schon”, and a slightly modified version of “He Sabine!”.  New tracks include an interpretation of a German children’s song and “Macky Messer” featuring words by Kurt Weill.  The LP features newly created front and back artwork. Medical Records is proud to present the quintessential first album by Gina X Performance. Gina X Performance was composed of the charismatic Gina Kikoine (vocals/lyrics) along with famous German producer/musician Zeus B. Held and backing band. Released in 1978 on various labels including EMI, “Nice Mover” has been out of print on vinyl format since 1980. Zeus B. Held has previously worked with the band Birth Control and has recorded multiple solo albums as well. “Nice Mover” has been an internationally regarded electro/disco record with various tracks appearing on compilations throughout the years (e.g. Andrew Weatherall’s “Nine O’Clock Drop”). The track “No G.D.M.” (a tribute to famous gay actor/writer/personality) was a club hit on both sides of the Atlantic and remains a commonly heard track on better DJ sets to this very day. It is made up of an infectious slow driving disco-esque beat with perfectly aligned and arranged synth accompaniments. Gina’s unmistakable and truly unique vocals and lyrics set this record apart from its contemporaries. Tackling controversial subject matter such as transgenderism, exhibitionism, and other fetishes , this record has left a deep mark on the history of new wave and electro/disco. The title track “Nice Mover” is a cosmic sequenced synth hit and also has appeared on various compilations. The bouncing “Be A Boy” is a high energy dancefloor cutter that illustrates the internal thought processes and daydreams of a female longing to become a male. “Black Sheep” continues this theme and is a very catchy number with bonus sheep sounds to keep it interesting... The closing track “Tropical Comic Strip” starts off with peaceful cricket samples and piano and builds into a bombastic production that is a fitting close to the record. Master recordings provided by Zeus B. Held and remastered by Lafayette Masters, Freiburg. Officially licensed from Mr. Held (KGBeat Productions) directly. This is a seminal work of electro/disco/wave and is essential for fans of late 70’s wave-synth-disco crossover and the like. For Record Store Day 2014, Medical Records presents two exclusive releases celebrating the classic disco of 1980s Italy. The second release is a very special compilation of very rare and sought after A + B sides (plus 2 more hand-selected tracks) of 3 Italo Disco iconic 12” singles that were originally released on the legendary Fuzz Dance label (a sublabel of Materiali Sonori). This is volume 2 of Medical Records’ Electroconvulsive Therapy series which celebrates rare singles in the synth/wave/disco genre. The first single needs no introduction to lovers of disco. Trophy “Slow Flight” (vocal + instrumental versions) was released in 1982. A very hard-hitting percussive track with very interesting production that is quite gritty yet smooth with it’s vocoded vocals and synth melodies. The second single which is probably the most rare is Zed “Plastic Love” vocal + instrumental versions that were released in 1983. Sultry female vocals and pulsing electro sequences make these two versions absolutely essential. The original single is commonly bought and sold in triple digits so both A + B sides were included here. Clocking in at the third position on both sides are the vocal and instrumental versions of “Hesitation” by Mya & The Mirror which is a production by Alexander Robotnick (Maurizio Dami) with female vocals. Also included as bonus tracks at the end of side A and B are Mon Bijou’s “Just a Lover” and Naif Orchestra’s “Check Out Five”. Both are unstoppably catchy and were released on Fuzz Dance as well in 1984. For fans of classic and the synthy side of Italo Disco (i.e. Casco, Sun La Shan, Amin Peck, etc). Zed - Plastic Love

For Record Store Day 2014, Medical Records presents two exclusive releases celebrating the classic disco of 1980s Italy. First up is a very special hand-picked selection of early singles as well as previously unreleased on vinyl tracks by Alexander Robotnick (aka Maurizio Dami). The debut album by Alexander Robotnick ("Ce N'Est Q'Un Début") was the 2nd release on Medical Records in 2010 and is now in it's 3rd pressing. Maurizio Dami needs no introduction and has been one of the pioneers of the disco/electronic scene since the early 1980s. The first single on the record is "I Wanna Believe" which was released under the moniker Gina & The Flexix in 1985 on the legendary Fuzz Dance label (an Italo Disco sublabel of Materiali Sonori). It is a rare 12" single featuring a dance-floor stomping beat, melodic synth leads and female vocals. The other single on the compilation is the 7" version of "C'est La Vie" which was released in 1987. Most of the LP is comprised of tracks recorded from 1982-1984 which have only been released on CD in 2003 on the "Rare Robotnicks" compilation (except one track from 2005's "Krypta 1982" and one other track culled from "Robotnick Archives"). The exclusive to vinyl tracks were hand-selected and display a diverse and ever-changing sound palette yet maintaining the unique and unmistakable Alexander Robotnick style which we have all loved through the years. Many tracks feature the characteristic vocal style originally exhibited on the international club hit "Problèmes D'Amour". This is a special collection that will appeal to the “Disco Freaks”. For fans of classic Italo disco and it’s many permutations and essential to fans who loved the Medical Records reissue of "Ce N'Est Q'Un Début". Alexander Robotnick -  Les Grands Voyages De L'amour

Medical Records presents two of the most striking and iconic reissues in its catalog. The first of the two Severed Heads reissues is 1983’s “Since The Accident”. Severed Heads are one of the most diverse and expert sound palette engineers and are also repeatedly overlooked and far underrated. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, they formed in 1979. The band was composed of many different members though it’s existence but Tom Ellard has always been the constant since 1979 when he joined the band. The group’s early recordings were characterized by manipulated tape loop experiments, cleverly modulated noise elements and repetition.  This period is very well suited to the early industrial period. Over time, the sounds morphed into more melodic leanings with pop elements and more prominent synth leads and backbone.  “Since The Accident” was released in 1983 on UK “Ink” records.  The LP exemplifies the transition point between experimental structure and loops into the catchy pop hooks that would later define such releases as “Rotund For Success”. Difficult to classify, it is a masterpiece of electronic music.  The opening track “Relic Of The Empire” is a slow sequenced magnificent piece with time-stretched samples overlaid with multiple tracks to create a symphony quite unlike anything heard before.  The hit “Dead Eyes Opened” (charted in 1985 as a single) is a dance floor friendly track with crafted synth hooks fused with bursts of noise intertwining with interesting vocal samples.  “Gashing The Old Mae West” is a perfect example of how the record can take a dark turn into the style of the earlier Sev Heads with jagged industrial crunched out tape loops and folding in and out samples.  Though signed to 80’s industrial label icon Nettwerk in North America and often classified in the same vein, these records are not easily definable and actually have a life of their own. Though commonly misclassified with a lot of the late 80s industrial/goth scene (as well as touring with Skinny Puppy at one point), Severed Heads would be more accurately in good company with acts such as Cabaret Voltaire, early Coil, Chris & Cosey (and CTI), and the like.  Long out of print and a rarity on the collector’s market, it is presented with original repro jacket.   Remastered by Tom Ellard form the original source masters. Presented on high-quality 180gram heavyweight black and white vinyl.  Features bonus LP insert compiled by Tom Ellard with ephemera from the time.  Limited Edition.

Severed Heads - Dead Eyes Opened (MR-034)

“City Slab Horror” was released in 1985 on UK “Ink” records.  The LP though 2 years after “Since The Accident” continues to carry the torch illustrating the evolving transition between experimental structure and loops into the catchy pop hooks that would later define such releases as “Rotund For Success”.   This LP seems to move slightly into darker territory in general with it’s synth textures and slower tempo tracks but overall has a nice “continuation” feel from “Since The Accident” yet with obvious technological evolutions. The opening track “Spasm” drags the listener down the Sev Head mental rabbit hole instantly with it’s heady samples and eloquent drum machine rhythm.  “Spitoon Thud’ is a rambunctious affair with it’s cacophony of samples and percussion.  “4.W.D.” is a great sneak peak into the sound of the Sev Heads LPs to come with it’s treated vocals and pop hooks (perfected on later records such as “The Big Bigot”).  Next to last is the amazing “Goodbye Tonsils” track which is unstoppably catchy and features more of the creative use of samples which made this group so interesting. Medical Records in close collaboration with Disko Obscura Records presents a special split 7” showcasing 1 new track each by ((PRESSURES)) and Roladex. ((PRESSURES)) hails from New Orleans, LA. They craft their unique futuristic icy tracks on a museum’s worth of analog synths and drum machines. This release follows their first LP on Disko Obscura entitled “Casting Shadows”. Their contribution “The Voices” is a propulsive and dripping with synth textures track featuring vocoded vocals. Roladex (a veteran of Medical Records already with their “Anthems For the Micro-Age” LP) hails from Seattle by way of Texas. Blending girl/boy vocals with catchy pop hooks drenched in a seductive melancholy, Roladex also uses a plethora of vintage gear. “Glass Statuette” is their new track for this 7” and features their signature sound with a bit of an evolution into Moroder-esque cascading arpeggios. Fans of both artists will surely want this in their collection. Émanton (Dann Abala) is an Argentinian producer, electronic musician and thereminist. After studying with synth maestro Ernesto Romeo, Dann began producing under Émanton and also has a experimental alias as Turvia. Here we have what Émanton perfectly describes as “hard esoteric/mystical/mega darkness sound”. Four dark and pounding tracks with leanings toward industrial influences and maintaining a consistently propulsive sound-design techno vibe. Celldöd is Swedish producer Anders Karlsson. Anders has been active in the music scene for some time working on different musical projects, always with a strong DIY ethic His Celldöd project has released several cassettes under his own label Brutal Disciplin and has also released records on Suction Records, Kess Kill and Femur Records as well as a collaboration with Varg (Vargdöd) on Opal Tapes. Hardware driven sound and finely sharpened EBM and techno crossover of the highest calibre. Four new cuts to destroy the darkest dance floors with a nod to the greats but clearly forward thinking. Lab Personnel is a very intriguing collaboration between a number of producers hailing from Croatia. Members include Zarkoff (member of Sumerian Fleet), Neon Lies, ikonal many more (total eight members). The tracks were recorded during Synth Lab 4 improvisational sessions in Pisak in 2017. The album is a dense and stormy affair overall with mesmerizing and dark synths. The styles presented drift between genres including acid techno, electro, EBM, and other hybrids. All instrumental, the LP is a brooding journey into diverse techno soundscapes with eight strong tracks that will not disappoint.
