Continuing to expand their repertoire further afield into the realms of drum & bass, Hospital Records proudly welcome Soulvent Records into the family! Soulvent has been at the forefront of the new generation of drum and bass since 2014. Founded by Joe Goss, Jack (Pola) Higgins and Liam Holyoak-Rackal, it all started over a conversation at a dubstep rave in the toilets. Since then, Soulvent have gained a reputation for their high calibre releases and vibe-packed events. The ‘Soulvent Meets Hospital’ compilation sees both imprints unite over 14 brand spanking new remixes of a selection of classics from the Hospital and Soulvent back catalogues - this is a serious sound collision!

Tuck straight into the album with Nu:Tone’s dreamlike remix of the soul-oozed ‘Butterfly Effect’ by GLXY featuring Hugh Hardie and Visionobi. With the original racking up well over 1 million streams as well as support from Skankandbass, it is without a doubt one of Soulvent’s most remarkable releases. Nu:Tone delivers mesmerizing rolling drumwork, fluttering synths and his signature deep bassline injections on his 2022 remix.

Hugh Hardie steps up to the plate on remix duties for Japan-based Mountains’ electrifyingly feel-good track ‘I’m Free’ (feat. Kojo)’. Taking it into darker territories, Hugh switches it up and provides an upbeat stepper layered with mind warping basses and skittery plucks which are a sublime complement to the original which was taken from Mountain’s debut self-titled LP on Soulvent Records in March 2022.

Rising talent and one-to-watch DJ and producer Vektah has been making noise in the scene since his debut EP ‘Culture Shift’ dropped on Soulvent last year. Vektah heads up a jungle infused remix of Fred V’s ‘Program & Control’, taken from Fred V’s debut solo album ‘Radiate’. Expect enchanting chimes, shimmering synthesis and crystal clear percussion.

Weighty drum and bass wizard Whiney further blesses Vektah’s ‘Request’ from the Soulvent
VA EP series ‘Tonics: Batch 1’ which shone a light on some of the scene’s mosst exciting upcoming talent. Whiney crafts up an instant rave damager with system thumping wobbles and pounding drums.

Staples of the drum & bass scene Pola and Bryson delve deeply into Bop x Subwave’s lofi-meets-electronica inspired anthem ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’. On this rendition, the duo continue to demonstrate their multifaceted production styles through crisp percussion and gorgeous atmospherics.

Brace yourself for further compilation highlights, with killer cut remixes Flava D, Fred V, Askel & Elere, Etherwood, Logistics, In:Most, Circumference and imo-Lu.

Appearing with a new EP release on Absys Records is Bryan Johns aka SGNL. A lifelong musician whose professional career launched with the formation of the drum'n'bass neurofunk trio the Robot Death Squad, Johns' music has appeared on a number of labels, among them Covert Operations, Flatline Audio, Moving Shadow, Rubik Records, Noisy Meditation, and, of course, Absys. Progenitor, which features Johns collaborating with Alcrani on two cuts and R4NSOM on one, hits harder than Flaneur and complements Evocativ's atmospheric dimension with a punchy rhythmic drive. Though a typical Progenitor cut sees Johns peppering crisp beat workouts with vocal snippets and grounding them with a thick bass undertow, a smattering of dubstep seeps into the scenesetting “Progenitor,” specifically in the cut's lowend bass attack, while Johns keeps the listener engaged on high with a series of clipped vocal flourishes and billowing synth textures. As strong are “Don't You Know,” which Johns and Alcrani power with a muscular groove and colour with a generally foreboding vibe; “Soul,” where the two stoke the fires of a wiry, dubstepinflected pulse; and “Rubber,” which finds Johns and R4NSOM tipping the balance away from dubstep and back to neurofunk of a particularly evocative and nasty kind.

Following his third album ‘Popular Mechanics’ the Sydney-based drum & bass innovator Royalston has his final release on Med School, the ‘Voodoo Love Dance’ EP. It’s filled with his experimental drum & bass stylings that draw for techno grooves, trance and electronica featuring the enchanting vocals of Etherwood and production wizardry of his cousin Pearse-Hawkins.

Royalston can be found flying the flag for Med School on the official 2019 Med School Australia and New Zealand tour alongside Whiney, Keeno, Degs and Unglued. Over the last decade Royalston has continued to be one of the most exciting producers in drum & bass, as well as a talented illustrator and animator. He’s previously received praise from across the scene for his cutting-edge production including the likes of Zinc, S.P.Y, Roni Size, Grafix, Bop, BCee, Urbandawn and many more.

This release will be available on a limited edition 12” white vinyl with a slick minimalistic design by Royalston himself.
