Returning to Dispatch LTD after a string of successful and hard hitting releases, DBR UK are back to present their debut album, entitled ‘Rough Edges’. Serving as a teaser to the full album release, this album sampler features two tracks; one, a collab with Skeptical and two, an exclusive remix from Cern.  

For the first track, ‘Hexton’ opens up the album in fine style, as DBR UK combine forces with the mighty Skeptical, a local accomplice and long-time collaborator of theirs. Carrying an unmistakably infectious groove, super crisp drums and smooth low end waves merge together in perfect harmony, delivering a final product that’s dripping with funk, oozing with style and continuing the momentum throughout, with a certain swing that only these two producers can provide.

Up second comes a track exclusive to this sampler, as fellow Dispatch album artist Cern goes in the remix for ‘Say What You Want’; the title track from DBR UK’s last EP with us. Completely flipping the script, Cern totally switches it up into a fiercely tight programmed amen workout. Re-using bass stabs from the original as a focal part of the weaponry, the once soothing vocals of Amanda Seal are transformed into a haunting chorus echoing throughout. 

Back on the scene with a vengeance and now releasing some of their best music to date, there’s a lot more on the way from DBR UK.

Following news that Artificial Intelligence will drop their new album, Timeline, via Metalheadz on November 20th, the drum & bass duo are back with a full stream of lead track 'Pass The Buck'.

Featuring the brooding vocals of Manchester's DRS, this rough and ready steppa brings together marauding bass and lethally precise percussion. If the rest of the LP is even half as tough as this, it may be worth donning a flak jacket the first time you give it a spin.

Timeline promises to visit A.I.'s long history in the scene, and will also offer collaborations with SCAR (aka Survival and Script), hotly-tipped up-and-comer, Dawn Wall, and vocal appearances from Terri Walker, Steo and Sense. Speaking to Data Transmission when the news broke, 'Headz boss, Goldie said: "Artificial Intelligence have given us some great music in the past so naturally I’m really happy that we’ll be releasing their latest album!”

“People on the Ground” explores through the obscure yet brilliant sounds of one of Sydney’s most talented exports for a haunting and hypnotic take on drum & bass. Title track features the captivating vocals of Hannah Joy and moves through melodic, piano foundations before catapulting into a euphoric whirlwind of sounds and styles making way for mania to come.

There are the sudden, schizophrenic switch-ups of “Give Me the World” and “I Saw the Face of a Person” that highlight Royalston's unpredictable style. His game of guesswork keeps things exciting and exhilarating throughout with influences of techno, house and trance all enticingly tangled into dirty drums and deep bass. “The Wrath of Mr Sparkles” and “Don’t Give Me Up” are not to be taken lightly, unrelenting and unrestricted to any musical parameters.

When he’s not writing drum & bass Royalston pursues his other passion of illustration, which he’s made full use of in this project, with the intricate detail in his music replicated in the artwork he solely designed.
The "People on the Ground" LP accelerates Royalston from his previous album "OCD", whilst keeping to his unorthodox approach to production mashing and merging genres into one crazed counterpart.

‘Rough Edges’ is an ethos by which DBR UK live by in the studio; a distinctive style which has developed over the years and throughout their own influences. Made up of varying elements, styles and attitudes within drum & bass, the album covers the trio’s full spectrum, carried out with their own unique flair.

Certified masters of crafting their basslines and low ends to perfection, the pulse keeps every track pumping with soul, carefully mapped out and delivered to a tee, whatever the chosen direction.

Eloquently arranged, but purposely gritty, dynamic but not over-complicated and never straightforward, glossy or predictable, it’s an ideology the group stand by, whether it’s a melodic vocal swathe or a murderous minimal mod.

Equipped with murky steppers for the shadowy back rooms such as ‘Demolition’ (ft. Slippy Skills), the album journeys through old skool & dub focused influences, like reece thronged ‘Dark Alley’ and hypnotic stroller ‘Man Hunt’.

Alongside their solo productions, the album also sees guest collaborators from the past and present combining efforts, with Skeptical, Structured, Gremlinz & Ahmad helping craft the gullied landscapes.

The poignant and piercing vocals of MC Fokus strike at the jugular in ‘Blood Water, whilst the smooth, dulcet tones of Amanda Seal perfectly contrast to the darkness and hysteria, before leading the listener back up the garden path.

Back on the scene with a vengeance, having blown us away with an astounding quality and output, DBR UK deliver their first long player, ‘Rough Edges’, utilizing their subtly edged weaponry to maximum effect.

It’s been a while since John B graced the skull with the headphones. Across his career he has released genre defining music. His tracks on Prototype are revered and we don’t even need to comment on his contributions to the Headz catalogue, but that’s all in the past- its 2016 and he has a new agenda to set. These tracks are exactly what you would want from John B on Metalheadz. One side has drama, one side has soul. It’s a welcome return for a missed team member.

A track that probably doesn't need much of an introduction, to say Cern & Dabs did a good job on the remix would be an understatement!  Andy C feels this is one of the best remixes he's heard all year and Marky is playing this one in every set.
